I play on my high school basketball team and I wanted to know how I could get a higher veticle leap. I am one of the smallest on the team and I thought I could make up the difference in the catgory. I wiegh 110 and I'm 5'7. If you have any ideas please post or contact me at bballfreak6@hotmail.com.
5' 7" and 110 lbs? First thing you need to do is put on some weight. If you're trying to increase your vertical, then you're going to need some more mass to take the pounding of taking it to the hoop. You also need to increase the musle mass in your legs if you want to elevate... I don't know how much growing you have left to do (I was finished growing after my sophmore year of high school), but if you don't get any taller, I suggest refining your outside jumper and not trying to play above the rim as much. Trust me, there will ALWAYS be someone that can jump higher than you. You'll get your shots swatted all day long if you keep trying to jump over those trees in the middle... As Calvin Murphy so eloquently puts it..."stop and pop"
Your stomach and back are pretty important in jumping. plus your form. work on those and do calf raises every night. aobut 100 for each calf. then find a shamen and sell your soul. I bet you can get rim then
Thats the best advice you can get bro. Don't listen to A-train you'll lose any jumping ability you have if you bulk up. Work your stomach area. Also your calves are important. Don't worry about getting beefy. I bulked up for a while and couldn't even jump half the amount that I used to. I got really sick and lost 15 pounds and the jumping ability came back within a week(what little bit that I have at least).
Try to walk without your arches hitting the ground. Then build yourself up to being able to run a few miles the same style. Your calves will get huge this way, even without the weight training.
hehehe. Yea I was in such a predicament a few years back. Back in the days of 8th grade......yessss........anyways. I got cut from the 7th grade team so I did this program called Air Alert 2 (Vertical Jump Program - $20) and I balled all summer. 8th grade came and I made the squad. I did the program only for 3 weeks and gained 5-6 in. I stayed off the prog because I didn't have no place to do it (I moved to an upstairs apt., I can't jump....people would be pissed) Anyways, I got onto the freshman team too but the sophmore team I couldn't try out for because after freshman year I moved halfway into it and didn't work out or play basketball the whole summer (played but not at the HS level of intensity) so I went to tryouts for my new school and couldn't go the 2nd day cuz my whole body was hurting. So in conclusion what I mean to say was try our Air Alert if you want but make sure you stay dedicated because that's the only way to achieve what you want. And, play basketball every minute you can because it will keep you in shape, and sharpen your skills. Also, try to get as much running as you can because it is WAAAAAY more important to be quicker than to jump higher if your tryin to get anywhere in HS ballin. WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY more important.......believe me......also try getting into your schools weight room 3-5 times a week.
I hate to be negative, but those things are peices of crap. It would be just as effective to glue a couple 2x4's to your shoes and run around with them on. all strength shoes do is teach you to jump from correctly. You can get the same results from walking on you tip toes. Or Running, I think that has been mentioned. My sister in law got a pair for christmas, she was stoked saying she was going to gain 8 inches on her vert. Problem is she already runs and jumps properly so the shoes have not done jack for her. Other than cost her parnets 120 bucks. VC15 to strengthen your back do supermans. thats where you lay on your stomach and lift you right arm and left leg off the floor. hold it for 20 sec. then do the other arm and leg. Followed by both arms and legs. Make sure you are lifting the oposite arms and legs. Also those ab rollers really do work. the year shaq won the mvp and actually came into the season in shape he was doing 3 sets of 25 with an ab roller. go for a cheap ab roller to not one on the info-mercial. they do the exact same thing
