IF Steve Francis was healthy, would he be in the playoff rotation?

The reason I ask is that a lot has been made of our injuries, but I haven't seen any mention of SF. (My apologies if I couldn't find it.)

It just seems this is the most banged-up Rockets roster I can remember ever that went to the playoffs. (I became a Rockets fan in 1974.) Can any of you stats wizards find anything comparable in the history of Rockets playoffs?

Is it correct to say that, of the 15 players on this roster, these have injuries that either limit their play, or have put them on the inactive list?

    Steve Francis
    Yao Ming
    Tracy McGrady
    Rafer Alston
    Shane Battier

I'm thinking that having Steve as an option to Bobby would give us a deeper bench. I really can't say whether Steve would have fit into RA's style or not because he played so little, but I wasn't impressed by what I did see.

But Steve used to be a good driver and finisher and he might help with this physical Utah team.

I know this is just a what-if, but I'm really proud of what this team has accomplished this year. It makes me sad that we couldn't have had a healthy team going into the playoffs.

i just miss his ability to go to the hole and then shoot the free throws at a higher rate than most of our players, even if it is below average.

If we only could have one healthy season. Next year if we can have all our primary players healthy in the playoffs we could really show people what we are capable of doing.

Francis is a turd who can't even find time to go to the games to support his team in the playoffs. He's probably busy spending the 30 million Portland gave him to disappear.

    I hope he retires.

I don't think health was the problem, he came to camp out of shape, got beat down by Rafer. Then when he finally seemed to hav earned his spot after that Suns' game, he went on to play a couple of really bad games, just outright embarrassing.

He can't possibly have performed any worse than Luther Head has...

if he was healthy, sure. i think he'd be a good choice for defending deron. I think he is strong enough and *maybe* quick enough..

Agreed. You know what else Francis can do? Shoot free throws!

It all depends on whether or not Adelman would swallow his pride and play him.

Francis is the X factor next year. Nobody including management and Francis himself knows what they are gonna get. His patellar tendon was torn 75% before surgery. How well he comes back from this surgery is dependent on the surgeon, his healing ability and his dedication to rehabilitation. He should have gotten this surgery 2 years ago in New York but look at it this way, had he recovered, he'd still be with the Knicks so we got him for cheap.

What are the odds of Francis coming back from this? Knowbody knows. Zo's career is over but then Amare Stoudamire suffered from an injury like this and it took him awhile but he's back. Al Harrington, Bonzi Wells, and Baron Davis all had knee surgery and are back.

And then of course there's Dwayne Wade nearly the exact same injury as Francis. He's back.

What are we gonna get next year in Francis?????? Who knows.

I don't think Rick has a pride issue... If Francis plays well before the upcoming season he will be in the rotation plain and simple

The thing is we don't need him for 40 min a game, but Jazz does have to play DW ~40. One more player in rotation may put more pressure on DW.

If Francis was healthy I'm positive Adelman would use him. As other have noted he's better than Head and his ability to drive, hit free throws and rebound would be very helpful. He wouldn't start but I could see him playing signifigant minutes off of the bench.

If he was healthy then I would think yes, but he has not been healthy in 3 years.

I am HOPEFUL that his knee injury is fixed, but the fact that I don't see him on the bench supporting his teamates, makes me think that he is just riding out the contract and may never make it back.

true true. i think he'd be a good 15-20 minute player off the bench to tire Deron out. He'd be kinda like how Sloan uses Matt on Tmac..

If clueless head can get some minutes, SF surely will play too.

Was it the knee that kept him out this season, I thought it was his quad? Either way what SF3 brings to the table will be valuable next season.
