Grant Hill has been in the NBA since the 1994-1995 season and went to the playoffs 6 times, but he has still not made it pass the 1st round. He was averaging 25.1 ppg in 6 years with Detroit becoming one of the premiere players in the league at the time. Then major ankle injury set him back when was in Orlando and not able to help McGrady in the playoffs. And Grant Hill's last year with the Magic they made the playoffs but got swept. Everyone gets on McGrady how he has never been pass the 1st round, but I believe Grant Hill is the one with the worst luck and for the 6th straight time that Grant Hill going to the playoffs he will not get pass the 1st round. Sucks to be a suns fan right now and you will hear a new excuse from them, blame it on Grant Hill :p

Yeah, except Grant Hill averages like four games a year.

We need to swap trainers with Phoenix or something. It can't just be a coincidence that Hill's had his best season in the last decade and Shaq hasn't pulled a hamstring doing all those sprints.

Sure there is a trend that teams Grant Hill has been on do not win the championship. It's unhelpful to say that he has a curse on him. As much as the media loves seeing a trend and exaggerating its impact on the future, why don't they use specifically the "curse" label more often?

Because even they have to realize its sensationalistic, simplistic and unproductive. Without something as vague as a curse, the media has to look deeper into the trends they're basing their simple r****ded label on. That's their job but they don't always take it seriously enough, which is where most of our annoyances toward ESPN come from.

Sorry, I'm a Red Sox fan. You can see why I hate that term being used and passed off as legitimate observation.

Imagine prime Grant Hill and the Orlando T-Mac... Finals? Maybe even a ring?

Saddest part is they was pushing hard for Tim Duncan that same season. If that happens they're looking at 8 straight titles.

Well T-Mac is about to make it 7 trips to the playoffs without a first round advance. I think Tracy is a little worse in this regard.

Hill was a much better all-around player in his prime too. It's a shame he got hurt so much, could have been one of the all-time greats.

You have to go back in history 30+ years, way before Grant Hill. Then you would understand the Phoenix Suns are one of the hardest luck franchises in NBA history. They pile up great regular season records, blow out a lot of teams and are fun to watch. But something always ends up going wrong in the playoffs. It's too bad there isn't a resident Suns fan on the forum to give everyone a history lesson.

Here is just one tidbit: What franchise, more than any other, had a stake driven through it's heart by Clutch City (both years)? None other than the Phoenix Suns. Those two series are among the best in NBA history and the Suns came up with the short end. It just seems like they are always on the short end of great playoff games or series.

no his deal was max or near max as well (maybe a mill off). the Magic were under the cap big time. They had enough to sign two max players and wanted Duncan and Hill. After Hill signed, they pushed hard for Duncan and almost got him too. After they couldn't get TD, they threw their money at McGrady.

Grant Hill curse is more about injuries, not playoffs failures.

Grant Hill was actually an excellent player when he was a Piston. I loved to watch Hill's game. At that time, Detriot was a bad/medicore team. Hill mishandled his ankle injury to play in playoffs and was haunted by injuries after.

They both had 7rys $93mil. That's 13mil each. They had enough left to go after Duncan. Remember the team they had the previous season was among talks of being the worst ever and was projected to have the worst record in NBA history. I'm talking about projections of 6-8 wins. They absolutely nobody. Darrell Armstrong was the best player on that team. They fell one game short of making the playoffs and Doc Rivers was COY for a very miraculous 40 win season.

Houston used to be like that too... until Clutch City, that is. :) We used to be called choke city remember? Think of all the near misses by the Astros, the Oilers, the Cougars, and the Rockets...

Hill has never been able to make a clutch shot. Sort of like a taller Jason Kidd. It's not about bad luck.

Given what I posted and McGrady's 4th quarter tendencies, I'd say this is extremely unlikely.

The Choke City phrase lasted less than 2 weeks. It came from blowing a 20 point lead with 10 mins to go at home in game 2, to none other than the Phoenix Suns. I remember Charles Barkley's big fat grin after that game and he said the Suns were not coming back to Houston (they won game 1 here also). After taking game 7, "Choke City" was thrown into the trash bin and "Clutch City" was born.

Every city has sob stories with sports franchises. Some cities and franchises have had a lot more missed opportunities than the rest. Looking at the NBA the last 20+ years, the Suns are near the top IMO.
