So I'm in California this weekend and finally tried In-N-Out Burger...

...And the debate is over. As a native and life long Texan it pains me to say this, but In-N-Out is far and away better than Whataburger, and to be honest it's not even close. My girl and I arrived in Cali yesterday and immediately visited the first In-N-Out we could find. Even though we went at around 3:00 PM local time it was still very crowded, which I took as a good sign. We both ordered a double double combo meal animal style. I gotta tell you, this burger was amazing and lived up to all of the hype I've heard about this place for years. I'm a huge Whataburger fan, but it's just not on the same level as In-N-Out. If they ever decide to open one of these in Houston I'm gonna be a ****** from going there every day.

Now on another note, we also tried Del Taco last night after a long day at Coachella. We had the exact opposite experience at Del Taco....that place sucked ass and we will not be going back. Taco Bell is gourmet mexican food compared to that crap.

Today for lunch we are going to check out some other local mexican joint, so we'll see how that measures up to the greatness that is tex-mex.

Glad you had the guts to admit it. I know how stubborn you Texans can be about Whataburger. :D

In-N-Out is probably the thing I miss most about Cali.

On the other hand, yes Del Taco is terrible.

The one where I lived by actually employed mentally handicapped people to work there.

Agree on both points. In n Out rocks over whataburger and del taco is food from garbage bin.

Unless they open a distribution plant in TX, In n Out won't be here either. They have a rule that all In/Out locations must be within so many distance from the distribution plants, don't want the burgers being on the road too long; staleness factor I guess.

Whataburger is overrated. The A-1 Thick and Hearty is their only world-class item. Everything else is overpriced and mediocre.

yeah, but do they have taquitos? honey-butter chicken biscuit? fancy ketchup? are they open 24/7? you have to look at the collective package each establishment respectively brings.

and cali-mex food is trash compared to tex-mex.

I fully admit that the A-1 Thick and Hearty burger is the closest thing to sex on a bun, and can go toe-to-toe with any other fast food item on the market.

But the rest of their selection, bleh.

oh god Del Taco is awful. In and Out is good, but not all that special IMO. Especially when you live near one.

Not only that, but most of the nation's produce comes straight from California farms, which means all of their ingredients are amazingly fresh.

I think the furthest east you will find an In-N-Out right now is Tucson Arizona.

Yep, they are the best hands down, and addictive like h*ll...

Always have to eat them there, though. They lose a lot when they cool on the drive home.

Whataburger still has a great grilled chicken sandwich.

Not knocking I&O > Whataburger, but this debate isn't over until you guys try Five Guys. I've had them all, and it's not close.

the food is not quality, i mean this is fast food I can make a QUALITY burger at home (or a steakhouse will beat them out), but thats not really the point for me.

    I like
-ketchup in a container rather than a foil grenade

    -large diameter straws

-I don't have to remember to ask for NO MAYO

Yeah. In & Out is pretty damn good.

I always feel that my Whataburger isn't hot enough....gotta throw it in the microwave a few seconds when I bring it home.

I'm not a native Texan and have no bias in the matter. Whataburger is OK, but not all that great. Same for In-N-Out. I don't see what the big deal is.

    White Castle rules!!!
