my friend let me borrow an old bass guitar and an amp tonite... i dont know how to play it, so i guess im going to teach myself some how.... any suggestions? (im too poor to go get lessons.)
Most of my friends pretty much picked it up on their own or from other friends that knew how to play. Good luck and have fun with it!

I suggest you go buy a bunch of cool stickers to decorate your amp and guitar, that way even if you suck, you'll still look kickass.
If you're just interested in screwing around, turn up the amp as loud as it goes and hold the bass in front of the speaker. Feedback is fun. If you actually want to learn how to play, hit some tab sites and start with an easy song. Tab is a crutch but one that can help you get going.
work on your drug habit, first. then, once you've got that down, find a way to rid yourself of any talent that you might have. after step two, develop a really slutty public persona. lastly, try to host The List.

Play your first show for free and naked. Then do something crazy like beat the crap out of Carson Daly.

On a serious note: I would put in some CD's and play along with your favorite tunes. Thats how I learned how to play 10 years ago (although I have an ear for that type of stuff). It takes a while, but you will get the hang of it eventually. good luck! (if you are serious)
