Did a search yesterday and couldn't find a thread on Springsteen although I read some stuff where many posters didn't really care for him (I was one of them a long time ago). But he is another along with Van Morrison that I have been getting into a lot lately. So, what is your favorite Bruce song? I love "Born to Run" and "I'm On Fire", but I will go with "Thunder Road" - everything about that song is greatness - at least to me. EDIT - I also have to plug "Pink Cadillac", "Cover Me", and "Atlantic City" but I will still vote for "Thunder Road".
1) New York City Serenade 2) Thunder Road 3) Wild Billy's Circus Story 4) 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) 5) Pink Cadillac
Pretty much all of them. Thunder Road is pretty much a perfect song so i guess i'll go with that. Atlantic City and Rosalita are probably my next two favorite songs. Bruce with E street is probably the one concert I hope I get to go to sometime. I'm sad I missed them while they were in Texas a few weeks ago. Ninja Edit: Forgot about Highway Patrolman. That's probably in a tie with Thunder Road as my favorite Springsteen song. It's so hauntingly beautiful. And come'on, how many other songs were made into a major motion picture.
Voted for Born to Run, but for me it's about tied with the one referenced below (which is not extremely popular): Where the distant oceans sing and rise to the plain In this dry and troubled country your beauty remains Down from the mountain road where the highway rolls to dark 'Neath Allah's blessed rain we remain worlds apart
Great topic, I've been listening to a lot of Springsteen lately. Very hard to narrow it down to one song so i won't. Born to Run - love the line "The highways jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive" Cover Me - I just wish i could find a remastered version of this song. Glory Days - His big hit, just a classic Thunder Road - Perfect Song And while not his best i'll give Bruce credit for these songs post 2000. "Long Walk Home" "Radio Nowhere" "Empty Sky" "Lonesome Day" Why isn't "Born in the USA" remastered post 2000? It was last remastered in 1990. It's time to turn the volume up on this record.
The E Street Shuffle Anybody else see him at Toyota Center a couple of weeks ago? Awesome show. They played the E Street Shuffle at that show. Seeing him bring on Joe Ely and Alejandro Escovedo during the encores...and letting them play their tunes backed by the E Street Band, was incredible.
Favorite Springsteen song? The last one I ever hear. I know lots people love him, but to me he's the most generic/bland form of "rock" ever. Like a saltine cracker with out any salt.
That was sad about Danny Federici, RIP. Partially to be different, I'll say Murder Incorporated, but I really do love the hell out of this song. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g8OQ4fvZU04&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g8OQ4fvZU04&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Born in the USA - I remember being 14 at at camp when this song first came out. I played my jambox next to my ear singing along with Bruce Almighty. Born to Run is actually a better song, but memories of Jr. High, camp and Ronald Reagan as President trump everything else! Buttons, Spicoli, Eddie Murphy, Vans, President Reagan, Trivia Pursuit, Back to the Future, New Coke, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Eye of the Tiger, Chariots of Fire, Madonna, Michael Jackson (when he was black) & most of all Dream, the Stick, Sweet Lew, Cool Hand Luke, Robet Reid, Granville Waterss, Connor Henry and others...
Where do I start? OK, Born To Run has been my favorite song since I was 12 years old, and 28 years later, it's still my favorite song of all time. Born To Run is also my all-time favorite album. Anyone who says Springsteen's music is bland or boring obviously hasn't listened to The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, Born To Run, or Nebraska. You can say you don't like his voice, or maybe the Born in the USA stuff, but I just can't see how anyone can listen to New York City Serenade and not appreciate it. Off the top of my head, I would say that my favorite songs are anything from Greetings through Tunnel of Love (let's see if I can remember these): Blinded By The Light, Growing Up, Mary Queen of Arkansas, Does This Bus at 82nd Street, Lost in the Flood, The Angel, For You, Spirit in the Night, It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City, The E Street Shuffle, 4th of July Asbury Park, Kitty's Back, Wild Billy's Circus Story, Incident on 57th Street, Rosalita, New York City Serenade, Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, Night, Backstreets, Born to Run, She's The One, Meeting Across The River, Jungleland, Badlands, Adam Raised A Cain, Something in the Night, Candy's Room, Racing in the Street, The Promised Land, Factory, Streets of Fire, Prove It All Night, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The Ties That Bind, Sherry Darling, Jackson Cage, Two Hearts, Independence Day, Hungry Heart, Out In the Street, Crush on You, You Can Look, I Wanna Marry You, The River, Point Blank, Cadillac Ranch, I'm A Rocker, Fade Away, Stolen Car, Ramrod, The Price You Pay, Drive All Night, Wreck on The Highway, Nebraska, Atlantic City, Mansion on the Hill, Johnny 99, Highway Patrolman, State Trooper, Used Cars, Open All Night, My Father's House, Reason To Believe, Born in the U.S.A., Cover Me, Darlington County, Working on the Highway, Downbound Train, I'm On Fire, No Surrender, Bobby Jean, I'm Going Down, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, My Hometown, I Ain't Got You, Tougher Than The Rest, All That Heaven Will Allow, Spare Parts, Cautious Man, Walk Like A Man, Tunnel of Love, Two Faces, Brilliant Disguise, One Step Up, When You're Alone, Valentine's Day. That's how much of a Springsteen fanatic I used to be- I didn't even have to look those up, and they're all in order (or, it shows how much of a loser I used to be and how I had no life whatsoever- probably more like it). I envy anyone who has a ticket to see Springsteen- at least through Tunnel of Love, he was The Man.
