I would shoot it with my off hand but make sure it has enough on it to get to the rim or backboard...as long as it wasnt an airball.

I wonder if Yao ever practices miss FTs.. But that was just mad skill nonetheless.

I believe you need to hit the rim. Hitting the backboard but missing the rim won't count. Otherwise anybody can do it with ease.

You hold the ball in one hand, pull the arm back, and throw it towards the rim. Unless you have the luck of some greek hero, then you've got to miss it.

Yao has some skills at the FT line. Scola not so much.

All he had to do was aim for the back right or back left corner of the rim. He'd certainly draw rim and still miss.

I'm old, short, fat, and slow, but I can hit free throws. I can also miss them whenever I want. See, there's this one dude in my regular game who really sucks. If we're shooting for teams and he makes his shot before I've had a chance to shoot, I toe the line and cough up the best-looking intentional miss you've ever seen.

For any Rocket apart from Yao, the best way to miss a FT is to try to make one.

I had forgotten about that. Like others have said though, Yao is the best Rocket at the charity stripe.

the best way to miss a freethrow is move your entire body/feet over left or right 6 inches and shoot it normal. dont try to miss short or long.

IF Yao or any of our other players could ever develop the skill of RELIABLY intentionally miss a FT and have it come back to you like that, we would be doing it at least 1 - 2 times per game. What a great extra weapon to have in your arsenal!! Possibly turn the second FT from a 1pt try to a 3pt try.

right now one of our team's biggest problems is that we can't even hit FTs! We're shooting in the mid-60's. Just can't win a lot of playoff games if you can't hit your freethrows.

That Yao miss was more like a pass than a FT. If you imagine that the rim is a players chest and you want to hit him in the numbers, then that's what you do. Throw it up there like a pass.
