...and where can that be found online?

I remember the Astros getting above .500 in 2006, only to go into the tank the rest of '06 and all of '07. Where do they stand now?

    Sweet! Thanks.

So, the Astros have to win 91 games this season to break even for the franchise.

    ...I don't see it. :(

Remember that for about 32 years of their existence, the MLB playoff structure was such that only 4 teams TOTAL made the playoffs.

And our Astros were one of those teams TWICE, and played in a rare pre-WC-era NL Divisional Series one other time. And one of those should have been a series WIN, no thanks to Fred f(*&@($&@*#&)(*&)(&(!!09098)(*&)(*&"!#$ Brocklander.

If all you look at for success is playoff series wins, you must be disappointed quite often.

I assume you think if the Rockets lose to the Jazz then this season wasn't a success regardless of their accomplishments.

It's a hoopster thing. No offense to the hoopsters! :) But when you're used to a sport that allows in more teams to the playoffs than it excludes, then you absolutely define success first and foremost by playoff series wins. Nothing necessarily wrong with that...just different.

I didn't follow the Astros back then but read this article about the series: http://www.astrosdaily.com/history/1986NLCS/

Apparently, he made two terrible calls that did the Astros in.

It was awful. After the missed call on Craig Reynolds at first base, there was a huge picture in the paper the next day showing him safe at first with the ball still hanging in the air, not yet caught by Keith Hernandez. Just awful.

That series hooked me, though. I was already a fan....but to go through that and that 16 inning killer in game 6...the ups and downs of it all...i was hooked.

If you want to read more about that series, pick up the following book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Game-Played-Jerry-Izenberg/dp/0805005137

I believe this is the book that describes Bill Doran swallowing a piece of sandpaper that Mike Scott "deposited" when he was being checked by the umpires.

    I love AstrosDaily.

That series was just gut-wrenching. Hatcher's home run; Knepper coughing up the lead in the 9th; that windbag Brocklander; if we could have only gotten the ball to Scottie for Game 7; Kevin Bass striking out to end it...

    Just... arrrgh.

I suppose I made a blanket statement. I meant bad as in bad at the post season. I still think the Rockets had a great year this year even if they're eliminated in the playoffs.

Would you call them anything better than mediocre?

Postseason series: 3-9 (counting '81 NLDS)
    Postseason games: 21-35 (.375)
    Pennants: 1
    Rings: 0

Dunno. The '80 & '86 teams lost what are roundly considered 2 of the best playoff series of all time to 2 legendary teams who went on to win the WS. They played in great memorable series' against the Braves & Cards in '04-05. Losing's always disappointing, but in '98-99 you just kinda have to tip your cap to Kevin Brown & Walt ****ing Weiss. The only time I was really disappointed in how they played was in '01.

Of the 30 MLB teams, we rank 14th in all-time winning %.

The Braves are at .499 and are 21 games below .500. And that's after having 17 winning seasons in the last 18 years. They were 565 games below .500 before that stretch started in 1991.

So we have 2 good series out of 30+ years and you consider us having a great historical post season team? Get real.
