Exactly. I'm not sure. Anyway, it was dismissed. The judge said that since I hadn't attempted to contact her in Colorado, that there was no jurisdiction for her to extend the previous protective order issued in Chicago. At least I know vaguely where she is now, so I can start the process of establishing paternity, even though she will probably vanish again before I get anything going.
From personal experience, my granddaughter's biological father had no problems finding cheap legal aid in Texas to maintain his visitation rights even though he wasn't paying a dime in child support.
When you find a lawyer, please let him/her know what moves she has made with the child that you know of. That way the lawyer will be better able to tell what state has jurisdiction over the child.
