The Tigers are putting a Rangers on the Rangers tonight: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/gamecenter/live/MLB_20080423_TEX@DET
Through 6, actually. They still need to get 9 more Tiger outs. I initially assumed that Jennings was pitching.
No doubt. Biggio took him under his wing last year: show up early, work hard, be a professional, etc.... Wade said one of Erstad's roles this year is as a mentor for Hunter. It's taken hold with Pence. I've read, and JD has noted on the broadcast that nobody works harder than him, especially while he was struggling early this season. It makes the "Pence parties too much..." crap heard occasionally that much more ridiculous.
Yeah, it's an interesting move. Coop says that Ausmus is his extra utility infielder now, but with Loretta & Blum able to play anywhere on the IF, it's a break glass in case of emergency (or blowout game) situation. Has to mean that they see Wigginton coming back soon. He can hit, has taken BP, was scheduled to take infield for the first time yesterday or today. That's the holdup - when will his hand hold up to catching the ball (insert joke here). They can drop a pitcher then to even things out. Unless there's something going injury-wise with another pitcher that hasn't been reported. Wright had a minor finger issue earlier that might have flared up last night, but that's pure speculation.
this one guy told me today...that the astros are way better than the rockets just b/c they play more games...
Speed: Bourn, Matsui, Pence Power: Berkman, Lee, Tejada, Wigginton, Pence Youth: Bourn, Pence, Towles Bench: Loretta, Erstad, Blum, Cruz Left-handed/Switch-hitters: Berkman, Matsui, Bourn, Erstad, Blum, Cruz This offense is pretty balanced, at least on paper, don't you think?
pence, erstad, tejada, berkman, blum, cruz, loretta, towles i really, really am not a fan of changing the lineup like this since we finally are getting things in gear and have momentum, just because it's a day game after a night game. ride the hot streak out. oh well. let's get em anyway.
I don't get at all Coop taking Kaz out of the lineup especially considering how much of a catalyst he's been since joining the team. Jeez, he's played 6 games so it's not like we've been overworking him. I understand holding back Bourn, since his groin injury is easy to re-injure, but what's up with holding Carlos back too. He's had some good swings lately and seems to be coming around.
It's a long season, guys need days off, day game after night, Cheito hasn't hada start in 11 days, Matsui missed a lot of time & may not be in full shape yet, 7 more road games before the next off-day, 2 afternoon games this weekend, bobloblaw. It's not surprising and totally understandable. Regardless, I'm sure there will be complaints if they lose, hell, he's getting ripped before the 1st pitch.
Do you think everything would have happened exactly the same if Pence had not been out? Same pitches? Same results?
