That's right the NBA is looking to expand into Europe. WTF??? I thought the NBA was barely working in Canada. Oh well... NBA in Europe
Like the idea, but the flights would be awful. I guess every team would get a day off before and after going... and I'd bet that division teams woudl play BOTH their away games in Europe at the same time... and I'd bet that team would have some loooooong road trips. The logistics would just be a nightmare. I can't imagine non-Europeans wanting to put up with it.
I'm betting that they wouldn't actually put a team in Europe. The NBA will probably start another league over there and call it NBA Europe or something like that. Like you said haven, the logistics of the thing would be awful.
Good Lord. The NBA needs to concentrate on the teams already in existence. Somebody got his heads in the clouds over expanding into Canada and look what happened. The Grizzlies we know about. The Raptors? What would have happened if the Bulls hadn't jerked around Antonio Davis (whose wife's family lives in the Windy City?) Would Carter have stayed if those dominoes (Davis, Olajuwon, JYD, Alvin Williams) hadn't fallen into place? Now the Hornets are moving, the Magic might still; our Rockets nearly took off. NBA Europe? Stern even mentioned the possibility of putting a team in Mexico. Yeah, great. Try charging $50 a seat to someone making 1/10th the U.S. salary.
Maybe, but the article explicitly said that a team would likely be placed in Mexico or Europe. The league idea was reserved for Asia, South America, and Africa. Maybe they'd alter that... Actually, this makes sense from one perspective. A new league in Europe wouldn't be guaranteed to do well. Europe already has leagues. I don't think the NBA trademark is so valuable that all these other leagues would collapse. A real, live NBA team that competes against the American teams... now that would be something that other European leagues couldn't compete with.
Yeah but like you said, would current and future non-European players and fans put up with it or accept it?
