Had this debate with friends about a month ago, with the room pretty much split on which premier PF they would rather have.

Question is; if you could build your team around a choice of Garnett or Duncan, who would it be? Who, right now, is the better player?

Although, as some may remember, I vehemently disagreed with a few posters (ie. tha cabbage) a couple of years ago that KG was the better player, Da Kid has gradually convinced me that he is (slightly) the better of the two. While TD is the more natural scorer, I believe Garnett is better in practically every facet of the game, save perhaps rebounding, which is about even. I also think that Garnett is the better defender. Some of my friends said this wasn't true, pointing to Duncan's considerable advantage in blocks. But thats overlooking the fact that Garnett can effectively guard any of the 5 positions, and play 3 or possibly four of them on offense. Then again, maybe I'm just a little biased considering I just love Garnett's game and attitude for the game, which has won me over. What he's managed to do with the Wolves is incredible.

So before I ramble too much, who would you rather build your team around?

Tim has shown he can do it in the playoffs. KG hasn't (yet).

If you asked me who I would prefer on the Rockets right now, it would be Duncan, for the simple reason that he can play center. We already have one super-versatile player in Francis, therefore I would prefer to have another star with a more clearly defined role. Garnett seems to play point forward sometimes, we don't really need that, in my opinion.

As a spectator, I prefer to watch Garnett. More emotional, more explosive, more versatile.

Paraphrasing a quote from the past day from Shaq....

"I'd love to have either one on my team. They're like a Mercedes 500 and a Mercedes 600, both look great, run better, and I'd love to have either."

he didn't say which was which.

Personally, they way he is going, Tim Duncan has got to be the most consistant - perhaps best overall - player in the game today. But, if I had a player similar to him, I'd go with Garnett. Depends on what a particular team needed.

They're both great players and I'd love to have both on the rockets. I voted Duncan because he's so mature, smart and consistent.

I think Tim, behind Shaq, is the second best player in the game today.

Right now, I'd take Duncan - but if Garnett ever realizes that down the stretch of a game there is no player in the game who can guard him, and takes control, I might change due to Garnetts superior defense and versatiliy.
