i cant believe the nba. 4 years ago they eliminated the dunk contest altogether and now they screw it up horribly. half the number of dunkers and head to head? ridiculuous. The only thing worse was the wheel thing. Clearly it put stevie at a huge disadvantage and also jason richardson in the final round. They nba is trying to take out any creativity that these dunkers may have with this head to head and wheel. If a dunker know he is moving on cuz he has a higher score than his opponent he could just play it safe before with 8 people you had to really try each time since you didnt know what 7 other people may do. god I am soo pissed right now
i was dissapointed as well. sounded like the tv guys didnt' like it either. who decided to change the rules?
I didn't like it either, but... Seein the same dunks year after year was boring in the1st place. They had to make some kind of change. THe dunk contest was fun in it's first few years becaus enoone had done it before. It was also great when Nique-Jordan were dunking because they were not only NBA All-Stars but creative dunkers. I also enjoyed Spudd Webb just because he was so short. But once these guys had to resort to blind folds and jumping over people, chairs, I knew it was in trouble. Basically 90% of the dunks have already been done in prior contests. THe new 10% are great to watch but it's not wort waiting an hour to see.
I think the wheel had to do with people not being able to come up with new material. Last season's winner, Mason, even said something about all the former players taking away a bunch of the dunks. Before I saw it in action, I though that the wheel was a great idea. But I saw what Chuck meant after watching the whole contest. Little men can't do big men dunks, Big men can't do little men dunks. Power dunkers can't do finesse dunks, and finesse dunkers can't do power dunks.
The dunk contest was great a few years ago, when it was Vince and Steve in the finals. Even if neither had been there, the format was pretty nice. 6 or 8 players, a few dunks, highest point totals move on. No gimmicky wheel, no junk. Got 2 chances to make the dunk, if missed the first time. The biggest problem with this one was that it moved so slowly. They'd have to sit there and discuss the dunk for like 3 minutes, then they'd show the scores, then talk for a few minutes, then they'd do the next dunk. It was boring.
they had to make it slow in between every dunks cause they were taking polls from the internet. get rid of that... make it faster!!!!!.. I think i wathced more commercials that day than during superbowl sunday.
