it's not even as much a sport as ping-pong. at least in ping-pong it's possible to work up a sweat...

Yeah, but the break a sweat part involves the actual activity, not the temperature you do it in.

I don't despise golf being called a "sport" as much as I do NASCAR (driving is a sport now?), poker (huh?), and... BASEBALL! (80% of the players just stand there on any given play)

Give me basketball, football, soccer, or hockey any day over those other "sports."

One (well 2 actually) word: Tiger Woods

I think all of the following are sports:
    Golf
    Cricket
    Ping-Pong

but not poker (poker is a card game)

You azzhats that don't think it is a sport go try and hit a golfball straight. Or go try to break a 100 on 18 holes and then reassess your thinking.

It's very difficult and much skill is involved.

I don't know anyone that isn't athletic that is good at it.

From my very limited knowledge of cricket, it seems like they run around a lot more in a cricket than in baseball, and baseball is considered a sport.

Sure it's a sport - but the poll options suck. Ping-pong is a sport as well.

I train for it like it's a sport. More and more top pros train for it like it's a sport.

Here's my definition of sport - any competitive activity that requires bursts of full body exertion (power, speed, or strength) and relies solely on the human element to determine the winner and has a concrete non-judged scoring system.

To me gymnastics is as impressive as ballet, but it's not a sport. The competitors are clearly athletes and a lot of my training is gymnastic-based (one-arm push-ups, pull-ups, planche progressions, handstands), but if you have to go to the judges, it's not a sport.

Snowboard halfpipe - not a sport. Boarder-cross? Sport.

Any motorized racing? Not a sport because the equipment has a lot more to do with determining the winner than the athlete.

No. To me, golf is a game where athletic ability helps quite a bit, but is by no means necessary. Its on the same level as bowling.

    And yes, I enjoy both.

Split-second reaction time and the fact that a driver can lose 10lbs over the course of a race makes NASCAR a sport. Not to mention the whole possibility of actually getting killed.

And I don't even like NASCAR.

I disagree with you on baseball, as well.

are you seriously saying cricket isn't a sport? if so, i would have to say you're stupid..or crazy..

Golf is questionable...I think you could make an argument for 'yes' if you say you walk the course (i.e. no cart) and carry your clubs (i.e. no caddy).

I expect endless contention on Baseball (;)), but NASCAR?

Come on, man. Running into a burning building involves the possibility of getting killed. Does that mean running into burning buildings is a sport? Since when is the possibility of death criteria for a sport?

Videogames also involve split-second reaction times. Sport?

Seriously, it's DRIVING. Driving is not a sport.

Driving....(Nascar, F1, Rally etc...) are the only sports if you lose attention for one second you can die. In other sports you can lose focus for a little while and nothing of consequence happens. Driving in my book, is the toughest and most grueling of all sports.

Babe Ruth was also a fat alcoholic.

John Daly doesn't trip over his feet when he walks. He has athletic ability. Just because he is a fat smoker doesn't mean he doesn't have athletic ability.
