Interesting take by ESPN's Lester Munson on Schultz's lawsuit to keep the Sonics in Seattle: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?id=3362659 It looks like Schultz has some legal legs to stand on, and I think we'll see a lot more incriminating statements from Bennett before this is done. I can't wait to see him testify under oath. Interesting that if the team doesn't move to OKC next season, they have to get permission to move again. I'm going to sit down and read the whole PDF of the lawsuit filed tomorrow, but I'm pretty optimistic after reading some of summaries. Save Our Sonics!
Man, it would suck so bad to lose a team, I remember how bad it hurt when the Oilers left, and their future wasn't even as bright as the Sonics. To have Durant one year and now he's probably gone..that hurts. Who do they root for now? Portland?
I was in Houston when the Oilers left, and the NFL was pretty much dead to me after that. I was there when the Rockets nearly left, and that would have killed me too. I don't know what I would have done because I have always been a bigger Rocket fan than an Oiler fan. Switch loyalties to the Spurs? Doubtful. Root for the team in Lousiville? I don't know if I could have done that. I think most people here in Seattle will just stop following basketball. I doubt that they become Blazer fans. That's kind of like Rocket fans switching to the Mavs or Spurs if the Rockets left. The Blazers and Sonics been division rivals for so long. It's going to be an interesting summer for the Sonics, but I feel pretty optimistic about their chances to stay in Seattle. Save Our Sonics!
If the team moves, Stern has mentioned letting the Seattle keep the team colors and name. This was partially brought up to convince Seattle to drop its lawsuit against the team playing the last 2 years of its lease at Key Arena. I don't know if this offer will hold up if the city keeps fighting his efforts to move the Sonics to OKC. Save Our Sonics!
