If Atlanta is smart and cans Mike Woodson, I would love to see what JVG could do with all the raw talent down there in Horford, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, etc..

Kind of makes me scratch my head why that team has that much talent and isnt any better than they are. I have to go with piss poor coaching.

haha...Rice signed the UCal coach, though.

From what I understand, JVG is not considering moving his family right now. With previous jobs, his girls were young enough it didn't matter. I think he's more a family man than most coaching. Remember, he's young and his kids are in an age that most coaches don't have to consider. imso, it would have to be a serious contender, not a rebuild job.

My guess is Boston, after they fire Rivers for not winning the title. hehe
    JVG and Thibodeaux reunited.

I think Chicago will offer him the job. They really need someone to get through to the players in the wake of the awful season they had, and JVG is a guy who can do that, without alienating them like Skiles.

Um, actually, he would be the ideal college coach. You've got it the other way around, its the ego-filled superstars in the NBA that can't handle yelling and negative comments, not the young (and mostly) eager and humble college kids.

JVG has made it very clear in his interviews that he's not interested in being a college coach.

I think when JVG wants to return to coaching, he'll look for some 40+ win team that's ready to compete. It'll be interesting to see if JVG is willing to take on a rebuilding project.

Say what you want about "perfect" fits for VG. But I personally easily see him locking heads with about half the Bulls' roster...they have a lot of free flowing players who (even if they could/would make the defensive commitment) would suffocate in Gundy's offense.

Do you think for a nanosecond that Ben Gordon, Andres Noccioni, Joachim Noah, and Tyrus Thomas want to spend 22 seconds of a shot clock passing the ball around the perimeter looking for the perfect post entry pass? Not on your life.

Further, the Cleveland Cavaliers are essentially the VG Rockets East. Larry Hughes was professional about it, but even he stated in the media that standstill at the arc while LeBron goes ISO was not the best use of his (Hughes's) talents.

VG is a defensive genius and does a hard smackdown on "knuckleheads". But how much better does VG do those things than Scott Skiles...who lost the attention of the young Bulls relativley quickly.

The Cav's already play Gundy-ball. The best "fit" IMHO.

sry...read your post too quickly. I thought you were saying Chicago.

I agree, next to Boston, he'd take Lebron.

I still say more than Lebron, JVG wants to coach Garnett and be rejoined with Thibodeaux. River's days are numbered short of a title, especially if Detroit takes out Boston.

    GATER,

The Rockets team that JVG joined wasn't a perfect fit for him either and eventually the roster was restructured to better fit the coach.

If JVG lands in Chicago, I would expect that roster to have some notable changes over the next several years.

They moved Big Ben for Hughes, but they have some other changes to do if they plan on moving forward. Ben wasn't the Alpha Dog they needed. Not sure if Hughes is either.

Maybe Cuban will make him an offer he can't refuse. It's close to where Jeff calls home now, the team has talent, and I think Avery is going to be history. Dallas could do a lot worse, IMO. Having said that, Van Gundy should just keep his current job. He's a terrific commentator.

I agree, and I think Nowitzki would particularly drive JVG crazy (as others have probably said... haven't read every post). That, (the Mavericks team, player by player), is just not an intense group of people. It's kind of like a polo team.

If he were looking the 1st two that popped to mind were Denver and Phx. Teams with major pieces that need philosophical changes, particularly on defense. But I wonder if JVG feels AI and Anthony are coachable, if he does, I bet on Denver.

Chi would be possible too, I agree on that. Or maybe Dallas.

No way on Miami (remember what Riley did to Stan?)

In the end timing is everything. He won't take on a bad team/weak talent, but if Dallas, Denver or Phx came calling it might be too much of an opp to pass up.

JVG and Larry Brown IMO would be two of the best candidates for teams playing below the sume of their parts. Wikipedia says Brown is about to become the Bobcats coach though.
