Ok I sold my car about 4 weeks ago to this guy who lives in Memorial and lives in a pretty nice house. So I figure he would change the title as soon as he can and no not to run the tollway.

But now I keep on getting this bills from Tollway saying the car is being running the tolls about 6 times a week.

What can I do? I mean we signed the title transfer paper and I gave him the title and he gave me the money and bill of sale. But he has NOT changed the title to his name yet and its been 4 weeks!

What can I do to say I DONT OWN THIS CAR ANYMORE??

advice please ...... do I need to pay these bills??

Seriously, dude, I think you need to go to the Texas Motor Vehicles site, i.e. http://www.txdot.gov . They have a Transfer Notification form your supposed to fill out when you sell, or donate, your car...that you fill out and mail in. It protects you from liability for criminal and civil acts involving the vehicle and the buyer(s) going forward...especially when a guy is slow to transfer the title to his name. Print out the form and send it in. Your supposed to send it within 30 days of the vehicle's date of sale. The form is VTR-346.

You need to cover your ass. You may want to try contacting them since your 30 days may be up and get some direction.

    1) Just call the toll authority... tell them the date it sold, etc.

    2) Man up.

btw- Toll records are done through the vehicle's plates, not the title.

Yeah I got that form filled out today at the DPS. Its just when I got home I received 2 more bills from the TOLL.

So what happen to the current toll bills? Since it shows that the car was sold on 3/25th

you have a bill of sale that is dated. Anything after that is on him.

Sorry, I've been running late to work alot lately. I promise not to do it again, nor run red lights, nor use my car in a bank robbery.

this should be right....if common sense still has any say in things these days.

Call the tollway collection department and explain the situation, then offer to fax the bill of sale for proof that you no longer own the car.

whatever you do, do not lose the paperwork you have that attests to the sale and it's date....jsut in case you end up having to defend yourself in court.

I was about the post the exact same thing when I first read the thread starter. I also had no idea that you were supposed to send something in when you sell your car in TX. I sold my previous car in TX never gave it any more thought after signing over the title and didn't even have a bill of sale prepared. Luckily I sold it to a police officer who seemed like really good guy.

It's 2008, common sense is obsolete.

As long as your plate is off the car Bill of Sale should be enough.

You should have taken your plates as well - the dealership made me take my old plates and registration sticker when I signed my old car over to them. They said something about a new law and I had to destroy them.

So for anyone considering selling their car in the future, remember to get all your paperwork and TAKE YOUR PLATES!

Why wouldn't you take the plates in the first place?

Because I expected the dealership to do whatever it is they do with old POS cars (and subsequently plates)? Honestly, I figured my car was just going to be re-sold for parts, so I wasn't really worried about the destination of my plates.
