I'm sure Cato will come back and become a dominating center approximately one year before his contract is up.

Just kidding, but it is frustrating signing an unproven player to a long-term contract and then having him injured all year long. It would be different if he was at least healthy and developing his game.

I think that Rudy realizes that his team is going nowhere, and will benefit from as many loses as they can get.

Therefore, he is being OVERLY cautious with injuries, in order to help his position in the draft.

Unfortunately you are very probably correct.

When a team gets it's head handed to them like they did twice this past week, and the coach comes out of it all smiles and chuckles, glad-handing everyone in the media, daping the boys in the LA hood, praising the opponents and generally pleased with the way the game went ..... that begs the following questions:

    1. What ever happened to the Rudyball fanatic who never said die? Why are some fans more interested in losing to get in a lottery race?

    2. What lessons do you think Rudy is sending to a bunch of kids who just got tarred and feathered in two games, when he is so laissez faire (sorry, lackadasical) about it?

    3. And don't get me started on what messages are being sent to a young team when the coach gets an extension of his contract halfway through (likely) the worst statistical season in Rockets history.

..... just don't get me started!!!!!!

    "...very probably correct."

I like that Popeye! Talk about leaving yourself an out. Well, I am in agreement with you on some aspects. I too, find myself looking for the "never say die" Rocket fan. But reality says to me that there are in fact fairweather fans besides the ones in Dallas (see Cowboys football).

I do, however, think that a contract extension for Rudy was not necessarily a bad move, nor is sending a bad message. You can also look at it as a move to solidify things that may also instill a sense of security in our players. The trade deadline passed, no Rockets were involved. Rudy gets a contract extension. The players may in fact feel that they have found a home, that this team is steadfast in building on what they have.

It is just my opinion, that doesn't mean it's right!

When was Rudy ever happy with the way the two blowout games went? I recall him being frustrated and upset.
