I'm sorry I didn't understand. Next time I'll send you an email and ask first, deal? The word propaganda was throwing me because I wasn't sure how that fit in.
I think she used western propaganda in response to "China's 21st century civil rights record". I'm kinda interested in her clarification too.
yes, as you could tell, i am not a native english speaker, and actually a chinese living in mainlander China...and i am not even an english major either i've read a lot here, especially when i was a fervent Tmac fan like for the past two years, but seldom post, because i am not that fluent in english and really have very little to comment here i've been follow western media closely for the last two years, and seldom pay any attention to demostic media reports. i don't have to rely on domestic media to know what's happening inside China....coz i know it from my own life and my associates spreading across China i've read a lot about the whole tibet debacle and the reactions from pro-tibet and pro-China group.....AGIAN, mainly english sources, internet forum like this, western media outlet, like BBC, Economist, FT, NYT.etc so, i think i have a more balanced view about what's really happening aroud it ,from a various perspective of view i am not here claiming i have already got the whole picture about it. not the whole, but i think it's enough and suffice to gain a more truthful picture anyway, my opinion isn't as important and as influencial, and right now i am not in a mood of arguing vehemently on the internet as if it's a noble cause that could achieve big, which obviously won't so, let me address the specific part you've singled out the women's opinion about the tibet-government relationship is just a small part of the entire attitude grassroots chinese is having now, not the whole and shouldn't be representative at all actually a lot of people's stance on the tibet issue are neutral, they don't know what exactly happened, and just let the government to deal with it under the principle that china's sovereighty couldn't be compromised ever the author should single out the most responsbile fact that contributed to the stir-up of the general nationalism both domestic and overseas chinese------that is constant bashing China with their one-side story ...yes, they could have their one-side story, we have the other side story to tell, which they''ll never bother to learn and ackonwledge
I have to say your command of English is better than mine. Why no one has ever replied to my post with a 'What?' before is beyond me.
Some advice here. Capitalize the first word of all your sentences. Place period/question marks at the end of your sentences. And make sure to follow the spell-checker. That is, if you see red lines below your word, make sure to correct it, unless it's a Chinese word. Remember that readability is very important when you post.
I've been watching this miniseries on HBO on John Adams. Very interesting. I wonder, how would you guys compare the violent anti-Chinese protests to the rioting that occurred in colonial America against the British?
I'm just skimming this thread but from what I've seen of this debate the PRC and their supporters are dwelling on the past. I mean why keep on mentioning slavery in Tibet and that the Dalai Lama was accepting money from the CIA up until 1972? If that is the standard of juding the Dalai Lama then its fair to bring up that Chinese emperors were also cruel and peasents were oppressed. In 1972 the PRC was in the midst of the Cultural Revolution so how can we not trust that the PRC won't revert to that condition. I don't believe that the PRC or their supporters are dwelling on the past but they aren't dwelling in the present either. The past matters very much to the Chinese which is why things like Taiwan and Japanese historical revisionism are big issues. What I see isn't dwelling in the past or the present but selectively looking at the past to try to justify one's position. If the PRC really wants to live in the present then accept the Dalai Lama's position now instead of continuing to bring up what previous Lamas did or what the he did in his youth.
History is just something to distract uninformed public from the real motive. All political issues aren't just for history sake. Everyone know it's the winner who writes the history. Taiwan, Japan, Tibet, etc... it's all about self benefits and control of natural resources or to maintain at the top. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=20080410&articleId=8625
I highly agree with you that we should focus on the present and think about what's really good for the tibetans LIVING IN THE TIBET(NOT necessarily exiled/fled tibetans) now and in the future. I am interested to know what Dalai Lama's position is to you.
