I like David Cook. Heck, I think he's the one to beat. He's a little smug, but so was Daughtry. He's the only one on the show I would consider buying an album from.

On the other hand, I can't stand David Archuleta. (My wife and I call him "Plushy Toy".) Someone tell that no personality munchkin that this is American Idol, not "Sunny 99.1 Lite FM" Idol. I'm sick of his crappy Josh Groban-like song choices. (I'll give him props for Imagine, but that's it.) Hopefully, America will freaking wake up and figure out that Archuleta is not a pop star, but I have little faith in that actually happening.

I got to thinking when I got home about how funny but true Vescey's post was and I wanted to add to it my observations:

    1) David Cook has a messed up mouth, especially his smile - reminds me a lot of Jack Nicholson as the Joker.

    2) David Archuleta has 2 facial expressions - the "modest" one which he does 90% of the time and then the serious, pissed off look or I call it "The Whacha Talkin' About Willis" look. He only gives this facial expression when someone dares says something negative about him and/or his performances.

The guys were a million times better than the girls tonight, but I think Simon was right in his unfair comparison statement.

David Cook did an amazing job. I've been trying to come up with a comparison for him, and I think the best way to describe it is Our Lady Peace meets Lifehouse meets Stone Temple Pilots. That's completely random, but my thoughts nonetheless.

Jason Castro did a great job as well. Not as good as Cook, though. He reminds me of Jason Mraz meets the singer from Savage Garden. I really like him.

Archuletta was also great. I thought it could have possibly been his best performance so far, but for some reason, the judges didn't.

The girls were all just kind of there. Carly basically tried to belt it out, and she did alright, but I think she shouted too much. Syesha was alright. Kristy Lee Cook has got to go. Brooke is fake, as usual...she was okay.

Bottom 3: Carly, Syesha, Kristy Lee

    Kristy Lee is gone.

Brooke should be in the bottom 3, but she seems to have a following.

In order for me.. (with line spaces for clear divisions)

    David Cook
    Archuletta

    Castro

    Carly
    Syesha

    Kristy Lee Cook
    Brooke

So I think Kristy and Brooke should be in the bottom 3 with either Carly or Syesha... and Brooke should be bounced (though Kristy Lee would be fine with me also)

    For those who missed it:

I think that both him and Jason are ready to go out and make records right now. They both have their own style, and are very good at it. Archuleta is good too, I just can't see him having much success after the show. The three guys need to be the last ones left, IMO.

So, Plushy Toy munchkin circumvents Mariah Carey theme week by singing "When You Believe" from Prince of freaking Egypt (which, BTW, Mariah only sang half of with Whitney Houston). How cheesy can you get? Damn, I'm really looking forward to Archuleta covering some of the major pop classics in American history, like Peabo Bryson's awesome "A Whole New World", Vanessa Williams' stirring "Colors of the Wind", or Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M's chart-topping hit "Hakuna Matata".

David Cook, spectacular as always this week.

While I enjoyed David Cook a lot last night, I think what i really enjoyed was the arrangement because his singing to me was just alright.

This to me was one of those times when the music made the singer sound much better than he really was.

Well it was supposedly his arrangement (with some help I'm sure), so that's still him..

Damn dude, thats a lot of archuleta hate. I understand what you are saying about his performances but maan, don't be so mean. :)

Anyway, how does KLC do it? Initially i thought she would mess up but she picked the right song for her and made it work. Brooke messed up bad.

AI fans should go ahead and eliminate david cook now so he can do a daughtry and make his own music and not put out an american idol produced record if/when he wins.

This one has the comments, and if Simon is saying that stuff, then you know the guy is good.

i agree, the guy is good

funny thing is when i found out it was mariah carey night i told my roommate that i hoped someone sang 'always be my baby,' and then in jest said "imagine david cook singing always be my baby." but then i realized cook is easily the most talented guy (maybe not singing but the whole performance package) on the show, and he could easily make it work. and he definitely did.

Holy crap, I must be losing it. My girlfriend and I both agreed that David Cook was horrible last night, and we couldn't believe the judges liked him. Now seeing all this praise from you guys is making me feel like I'm in some kind of parallel universe where bad music is considered great. Our main complaint with him is that, at least the last two weeks, he's been singing too low (in terms of octave) and it has caused him to come across weak in parts where he should be powerful.

And please, don't mention him in the same sentence as Our Lady Peace (my favorite band). He tried one of their songs last week and he sucked balls.

The more I watch it the better it gets, the 2nd half was brilliant the first half was too much in the lower register...DAWG....but he really closed brilliantly.

I completely agree with this. I didn't understand why the judges thought it was so great. And same for what you said about the response on this board. I just watched it again to make sure, but this was definitely not all that great. I told my wife after he sang and before the judges that it was about 15 seconds of being good and about 2 minutes of really boring.

David C. does not have a good tone when he sings in his lower register and he can't sing with enough power in that register to sound good. The arrangement was pretty good in that he made it fit his style, but I think that he should have started the first 20 seconds with just the guitar and then make the last 2 minutes rock. As it was, it wasn't all that great for me.

Don't get me wrong I like David and I think that he will have the most success. I just didn't think that this performance was as great as everyone is saying.

To stay relevant in American pop culture, American Idol needs more winners like Kelly and Carrie, who both went on to become great recording artists with fantastic album sales. David Archuleta is just not that guy; David Cook is. It's embarrassing to the show when the overall winner gets slaughtered on the Billboard charts by one of the runner-up contestants. And if Archuleta wins, that is exactly what will happen.

    I agree with this.
