So WoW has no end or finite set of goals? That sounds horrible, to me at least. I remember playing the line of Sims games such as "The Sims" and "Sim City" and so on. I got tired of them because I eventually realized they never ended and I know they came with different expansion packs where you could do different things but it still got old and quick.

Wow is a living, breathing, adapting world.

You go to bed, the game continues.

Your guildmates or friends in game will egg you to keep playing, they -depend- on you somtimes, unlike in games before, where you could easily shut off the system and not miss or feel regret for not helping some computer generated character... these people are all real, and the community keeps you coming back for more.

There is no end, only minor moments of satisfaction and triumph mixed inbetween furious sessions of grinding experience/reputation and hording items and gold.

It has destroyed lives before, and it will keep destroying. These people are responsible for their own actions, but it truly scary how easy it is to lose track of reality and what is important in that game.

So true..here's ppl that I knew about 5 years ago, they were all still in HS for the most part
-Ones like 26, lives at home with his parents, has been going to community college for like 5 years, still plays WoW.
-One went into the Army..is in Korea or something, he never graduated HS.
-Another one flunked out of HS, still plays WoW, takes nightclasses to try to get his GED.
    - There's a girl that plays, she's like 25, her husbands in Iraq, she doesn't work, just plays WoW all day.
-One was offered to join a Law Firm but rejected it, so he still lives with his parents and plays WoW all day, he's 29.
-One had terminal cancer, and played WoW all day till the day he died..
-One was in UC Berkeley, dropped out so he could play WoW more, quit WoW, now goes to a Community College, he's like 24.
-One that I know personally is 23, rich as hell, gets money from his parents, probably going to be a 6th year Senior, and has -no- friends, I was going to room with him for a while until I saw how the game controls his life. He will skip class to play a video game, he will skip hanging out with friends, he will skip answering his parents' phone call, he will skip eating, sleeping. I was at his apartment one time chilling with a friend and he asked us if we could make some food for him, he was too busy playing the game, thats when I knew this dude was F''ked up

Over half the people that play the game have sorry ass stories like this, I recommend if anyone knows someone that plays compulsively, do anything you can to stop them..

Does anyone remember that Southpark episode about addiction, where addiction was like chasing a dragon and not being able to reach it.

I think somebody referenced "South Park" already in the thread but I am not sure if it was that specific episode.

exactly..haha. I'm just glad I am not one of them, they're idiots for making the choices they did anyways. I say if they don't want help, let them burn.

Why is it any of your concern if your cousin has a job or not? You should mind your own business. I'm assuming you are a guest at his house, so confronting him about it will only lead to unnecessary tension that could lead to you being forced to leave the house.

Can't they take the servers off-line...like all at once? In other words, unleash a WoMD in WoW? We need to find a way to get that company out of business and bankrupt. Then, the repo guy can come for all the servers and wipe their drives clean.

It's the only way to get your cousin back.

That...or send him to Alaska and make him live on an old bus in the forest for 3 months. If he survives, then he will have a new lease on life.

The same company is making StarCraft II. So let them live until that game is released.

Former lvl 60 Tauren Shaman here. I stopped playing WoW 2 years, and I haven't looked back since. Great game and wonderful community, but after a year of playing, I could no longer justify the time sink required for high-level instances and grinding.

still don't about his work situation but I'll lay off for another week.

AFAIK, since the time I came home from UH today, he has only played like 1 1/2 hrs. I guess my lil confrontation with his girlfriend might had some doing.
