At his speech today in Seattle, an airplane flied over with the sign "Dalai Lama, Pls stop supporting riots!" Protestors are planning to hound him every step of the way of his tour in the US. His holiness was probably used to only fawning attention when he visited the west and was stunned to have the tables turned on him in this way. Well, better get used to it from now on. His holiness's expression. Priceless!
The Dalai Lama is more than a religious leader. He is a politician just like the Pope and he should be treated like one. The only politicians who don't see protests are the Chinese politicians when they talk policy in China.
He already doesn't support part of the protester's stance- Tibet independence, at least from the recent news I've heard, and Hong Kong is a liberal place.
the reason for the exiled government not seeking independence is because that's not in the interest of them and the tibet personally, from their policy, seems to me that they are seeking COMPLETELY political and religousl control over tibetans--not just tibet, but gansu, sichuan as well--- (WHICH means the central government have no say in how to govern tibet) while hoping the central government to help with them economcically and provide military protection for them give me a reason why the central government should be such a philathropist...considering the exiled government haven't brought any substantial living benefts to tibatens to date... i acknowledge that tibet may need more autonomy, but the exiled government isn't the only option and i doubt would be a correct one and will be ever Central government could give tibet more autonomy from WTHIN tibet now
he supports protests and world leader's boycotting of the opening ceremony while he refuse to take any responsibility for the riots and violence resulted from those protests it's like GW suporting the miltary presence of Iraq and refuse to bear any NEGATIVE consequence of the war in Iraq...
I thought the Dalai Lama said he didn't like the boycotting? Or maybe I got confused with somebody else.
Not really. Military is designed to fight wars which have negative consequences. Protests do not have to be designed to have riots.
you can watch the interview of him by MSNBC when the interviewer asked him whether he advocates a boycott of THE GAME, he said no without any hesitation then...the interviewer asked him immediately, whether world leader's should be boycotting the opening ceremony, he had a smile and then said: it's up to them well, you could pass your own judgement
So, no, you don't have a source for the claim that he supports riots. That's what I thought. In fact, I seem to recall him speaking out strongly against the violence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23686441/#storyContinued So other than Chinese propaganda, I don't know where these claims that the Dalai Lama is "supporting riots" are coming from.
and agian please notice that Dali Lama Clique the CCP has been propagandaing isn't the same with the individual Dali Lama actually, there are a lot of forces behind Dali Lama....after all, i don't think Dali Lama equates exiled government or its various organizations either
How could you possibly take his statement that it's up to world leaders whether or not to attend the Games as a statement in favor of racial violence, especially when he has explicitly condemned the violence?
The protest this thread is about was clearly aimed at the man himself, as has been much of the Chinese propaganda. There are a ton of articles up in the Chinese media about how these riots supposedly expose the Dalai Lama's peaceful stance as a fraud.
