I mean, I know people are happy, but most of what I see right now is little critiques about things that went well or not so well today, and speculation about where we could finish. We've gotten used to this. And I love it.

... But just in case anyone needs a reminder of what's happening right now.

The Rockets are now 18-5 since Yao went down. We have won five straight by an average margin of over 16 pts, including three on the road. But that feels like nothing because we just won 22 straight a couple weeks ago.

Today, we were without Yao AND Battier, two of our three (or four) best players. McGrady was playing on a sore shoulder. Luther and Alston (who we normally rely on some offense from) failed to show up. We couldn't make a free throw or a three pointer to save our lives... but we f***ing destroyed the Phoenix Suns.

After the injury, everyone said we were either out of the playoffs, or a bubble team that would be first round fodder. Now, with three games left in the season, we are competing for the FIRST SEED IN THE CONFERENCE. Anyone who tells you they saw this coming on February 26th (or hell, even at the end of 2007) is a bold-faced LIAR.

The Rockets are just owning so many people right now, including some of their own fans... Here's to continuing the ownage through June.

    Great post!

It's absolutely amazing what this team is doing. That they've played so well for so long is mind-boggling. I still feel the season won't be a disappointment if they don't win in the first round, but I kind of expect them to at this point.

I think they were exhausted after the streak and dropped a few games in ugly fashion, but they look a team that has its groove back. Just in the time for the postseason!

I dunno, its like, the Rockets shouldn't be able to do this stuff without Yao and with several other players on the mend. But they are. And many times in impressive fashion.

    17-5 sans Yao??

Absolutely. A refreshing season. No matter how it ends, this team has shown that they have a great supporting cast, a great system, and are generally very smart.

I'm extremely proud of this team and extremely excited for next season. A supporting cast that could carry T-Mac and half a season of Yao to 55-ish wins can potentially take us to 60 wins and the championship next season.

Don't forget how this drags on. Scola, Landry and Brooks have established a SOLID base for their second seasons. All have played important minutes in their rookie season, and have succesfully translated their play into helping the team win. If these guys workd hard in the offseason, I can't imagine how they won't be better next season.

Great season. We can't control injuries, but we can control how to react to injuries in the most beneficial way.

Well, all these achievements, fighting for 1st seed in WCF without Yao and occasionally without others like TMac, Battier, the streak and others are
attributed to our coach, Adelman. We could challenge and even beat superior
teams without our stars and with several rookies by double digit really showed what an adaptable and strategist coach could do. Kudos to him.

was just about to post the same thing.

i'm not trying to be a homer or anything, but it's an absolute travesty that adelman isn't going to be coach of the year. hell, it's a travesty that he's not going to be UNANIMOUS coach of the year.

i dont have to tell you guys all the reasons, but what is wrong with the media? i think byron scott is a good coach and all, but he's going to end up winning a maximum of 1 game more than adelman. and the biggest joke of all is that rivers might win it. the guy has always been an awful coach, but now that he has garnett and ray allen, it's because of him that boston is good? 99% of the posters on this board could have coached the celtics to the same record in the east.

it's just a travesty. on the "TNT Awards" the other night, they mentioned 5 potential COY candidates without even mentioning adelman.

    the media are imbeciles.

After the winning streak they had a let down ...the entire team, they seemed to be back to doing what worked during the streak...team play and good defense...

    HOORAY !!

You are right. The defense struggled just before winning streak but looks like it is back to 'normal'. Of course we maye have some problems with guarding big people like Amare but we are able to shut down everybody else.

We made Suns take tough shots, not only them. Teams are not getting easy layups on us anymore. We compete and play solid team defense even without Shane.

It all depends on if we win our first round series.

Why? Even if we go on to lose the rest of our games this season and then get swept out of the playoffs by an average margin of 35 point per game, I don't think you can call this season anything but a resounding success.

The system works, the defense is still there, and it seems role players can be plugged in and out with little drop off. We have some huge personnel holes but I think that can be addressed. As always, health will be the big question mark as to whether this duo has any success, but out of what was in their control this year, I think you can't help but be satisfied.

I think someone should make a YouTube video with dated quotes from the press (with attributions, of course) ... then a highlight of the next win with the score... and so on.

I think it would be quite entertaining.

During the winning streak with Yao healthy, my friend and I were convinced this was our year to win it all. After Yao went down, I lowered my prediction to a lower half seed that would upset one team in the first round. My friend held onto the delusion that we were still winning it all, although I dunno if he really believed it. Anyways, I'm already half wrong, and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully the Rockets take it to the next step.

Excellent post. I love this feeling too. It's as if the collective, resounding response from the team, fans and everybody is, "Just keep telling us we can't win! Just keep telling us we shouldn't be doing what we're doing."
