...In other words what have you found (eureka!) or acknowledged as an event or thing in your life that has made a profound impact in your outlook, while not seeking what you found?

For example, I met my wife when I was ready to give up on serious relationships...also I use to "hate" hunting till I gained a friendship with my late Uncle "Buddy"....(it was the friendship I gained which helped me see things differently.)

    What would be yours?

Lynus is mine. He was a good friend of mine and I wasn't looking to be his girlfriend (especially with the age difference). And once we started dating, I never thought much of it. Figured I'd be like a notch on his belt. Never imagined where we would end up, or where I would end up as a result.

I think he has impacted my life more than anything or anyone. My parents' divorce impacted me a lot, but I really had no decision in that. I had control over our relationship (at least my half). Deciding to stay with him while he went away was one of the first major decisions I made all on my own. And especially when he actually left, I realized how much he has influenced me and how much better I like myself now. I've become a better person since I've been with him. I know I'm young and I still have lots of time to figure things out, but it all starts somewhere. Mine started with him!

For me, it was a total life-changing event between Soph. and Jr. year of HS. In Freshman and Sophomore year, I was doing poorly. I got bad grades, hung out with losers, didn't care about anything, and had a bad attitude about everything. I was not a good person at all. It wasn't as bad as some people who go through drugs and violence, etc., but for me, this was HUGE. Really, I just didn't "have it together" at all . . . I didn't know myself.

Then, after my sophomore year of HS, like maybe 3 days after the last final, my family and I went out to lunch . . . We went to my father's office before lunch where my dad gave me an HP 48 G calculator with a note on it. The calculator was something I would likely need in Pre-cal, etc. The note said simply: "The strength and power to excell comes from within."

Most people who change their lives say it was a long process, and it was a drawn out thing taking months/years of work. Not so with me . . . It was in that instant that something clicked. I don't know what it was, but I just changed. I became everything that I knew I should/could be and more. It was instant, I became a better person, focused on going to college and succeeding, thinking about others before myself, and doing everything the way I should've been doing all along. In that one moment, I discovered myself. I still keep that note at the bottom of the calculator case, and I pull it out on very rare, very difficult times, when things are going badly.

I went to an afternoon champagne and orange juice party and spied this beautiful woman. We proceded to get polluted and got into a deep debate about God. (I was an athiest at that time and would debate anybody on the subject).

Around 7p she invited me to another party. Heck yes I went...with carnal knowledge.

When we got there I found a strange group of people having a great time. Since my focus was on her, I didn't realize what this party was about...but it felt like some kind of cult. Lots of hugging, dancing, incense, candles, etc...much like a hippy hangout.

Around midnight this lady said, and this is no bullsh*t, "If you want my body tonight, you have to promise to go to class with me tomorrow morning.

After 12 hours of drinking, I would've said yes to any deal she was making.

Next morning (sunday) we all packed into cars and went to this class. (Half the party spent the night). I had this huge hangover and was in no mood for class, much less anything this cult like group was into.

It wasn't a cult actually, just a new age belief system called A Course In Miracles. Fifteen minutes after this class started and after everybody was hugging and dancing, I found myself for the first time in my life crying for God.

I was so moved by the speaker's words. God has been in my life ever since...going on 10 years.

Serendipidous? You bet. I was looking to get laid, and ended up with God. That's was so cool.

My friend Corey had been begging me to come up to Waco, where he was in law school, to watch Monday Night Football for 18 months. Finally, one Monday (the only Monday, I told myself) I did. That's where I met Leah (aka RM95's Girl) and fell in love at first sight. That was 15 months ago, and hopefully we'll be engaged in the very near future.

What a great story. Rocketraccoon, your's too (inspiring, I think). Makes me think of Lynus. We've been together for 13 months now. He's been throwing around the 'forever' word ever since he left. I think he misses me! ;)

But it's kinda scary stuff. I mean, I'm only 20. I know we wouldn't do anything until I was done with school. I've always joked about it (because that's what little girls do is dream about weddings)! But I think he's kinda serious.

Anyway, congrats and good luck to you and her!

I know my next serenpididous moment will be when I read a Princess post that doesn't have a Linus reference in it! :D

    j/k, your highness!

I can see this is turning into a "How I met my wife/girlfriend" thread.....but here it goes.

I was working for a grocery store chain when I was transferred to a new store. There was a girl working there who I met and becames friends with. After a few weeks, we went to a club together, along with several other people from the store. After closing down the club, we all went over to this girl's apartment and kept partying. It was getting late, I had to work in the morning, so I told her I had to leave. She came out onto the porch with me to say goodbye, and, in a joking manner, said to me "I dream about this night always!"

Well, in one of those instances where the mouth works before the brain has a chance to think, I said "I'll give you something to dream about", then grabbed her and kissed her.

That was 18 years ago, and we're still together. It was as serendipidous as serendipidous can get.

When I was in high school, I was constantly depressed. I was depressed so much that I felt "normal" being depressed. If I ever felt good or happy I would make myself depressed in order to get me back to "normal". This was also mostly a "private" sort of depression. Most of my friends had no clue and it was mostly just feeling sorry for myself.

When I was a senior in high school a friend of mine got invited up to UT for Fraternity Rush. He invited me and another guy along (which was totally inappropriate as the Fraternities had arranged dates for him on Friday and Saturday night as well as a place to stay). Needless to say we arrive in Austin and the guy my friend is supposed to stay with won't let all three of us crash there (very small dorm room). Also, my friend ends up getting two dates on one night instead of one date each night.

So, my friend "gives" his second date to me. Now, this chick is totally not interested in me at all. My friends date ends up liking the third guy that came with us more. Needless to say, I ended up being very depressed that night as things were just going terribly.

However, at one point, for some reason, I realized that I was in Austin, there were many parties to attend with tons of free booze availed and I was with a pretty good friend (who was also getting ditched!).

I could be depressed and have a bad time (like normal) or I could have a good time.

I decided to have a good time. It was weird. I just turned my depression off like a light switch. I ended up having a great time and I have not been depressed every since. (This all happened something like 17 years ago.)

My Freshmen year....I stayed at Contessa Dorms on Nueces a block off the Drag. It sucked, but I didn't have the money to get a car which I'd need for an affordable apartment so I was forced to stay another year.

My sophemore year, I meet my two best friends who I still keep in touch with along with a hoard of other friends, the rooms were redone so it was nicer, had the best year of my life.
