Thinking about what my plans might be this evening, I realized that I kept coming up with typical restaurant fare. So the question is: What are some restaurants around Houston that are a unique experience? I'm looking for ideas about places that are enjoyable in areas other than the food. Someplace that is simply different and fun. Hell, I even thought about Dave and Buster's, but surely there are more enjoyable and unique place than that. Thoughts?
There's recently been a lot of buzz about The Boiling Crab, a cajun seafood restaurant off Beltway 8 and Beechnut in the Viet Hoa shopping center. The crawfish and the crab there are awesome. They have 3 flavors: rajun cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter. Or, you can combine the three called the "the whole sha-bang"... it is freakin badass. It's a little expensive and runs at $6/lb (crawfish) and $5/lb (crab), but the taste is definitely worth it. I'm not sure if you would consider this an "unique" experience, but in my opinion, the process of eating the crawfish is fun and enjoyable to me.
Is the restaurant in the Spindletop still open? Or what about that Brazilian grill place Fogo de Chao (spelling?) Or Benihana?
Might have to try that the next time I am in Houston, I love Cajun food. I remember eating at Babins in Kemah a few years ago. It was good but nothing unique.
Right now, I'm leaning towards Sushi. Anyone know of some interesting Sushi places? (no buffets, please)
Highly highly recommended. Went to the Austin location last weekend. I am now officially ruined for going to a regular steakhouse. "What do you mean I only get 1?"
I hear when the weather is nice they open up this big window at RA Sushi and its supposed to be interesting.
A perfect example of what I was originally thinking about was a place like Shanghai Red's. It has closed down, but to anyone who never went, it was a great experience. You went down a dirt road to a place that looked like a dilapidated old mining building, but went you walked in, it was plush inside with full three story glass views of the Ship Channel. Brady's landing is still over there, but I've never been. Anyone care to share what that place is like in comparison to Shanghai Red's? http://www.bradyslandingrestaurant.com/index.html
Some good Sushi places off the top of my head: Kubo's (Rice Village, next to Two Rows) Nippon at Montrose and Kenwood
Has anyone been to Nelore yet? That place is said to be similar to Fogo's and a lot closer to where I live. http://www.4412montrose.com/houston.html
Yeah, try Miyako's on Westheimers if you like a show watching other people. Sit at the bar and watch every kind of person come in, share food and talk to whomever comes in. Or go to the back in a take your shoes off room or a regular table with ambience.
Its supposed to be sorta Southern Style/Cajun. Check out the menu here.. http://www.redcatjazzcafe.com/RedCat_menu.htm btw, Kyle Turner is playing tonight, that guy is badass, he plays the sax.
