Lil Pun - JAG is responding to your first post in the thread.

I read his post and thought the same thing, then I figured it out...

Okay, I have a question about a movie that I have loved for years, but never really been able to discern for certain who a certain character is.

In the movie Gattacca, at the very end, the guy who does the piss test on all the employees reveals that he knows the true identity of Ethan Hawke's character, Vincent (he was posing as Jerome). But, instead of turning him in, he lets him go, revealing that he somehow knew all along who he was, and that he was helping him in his quest to reach the stars.

Now, the piss tester guy (I hate calling him that, but I can't remember the character's name right now) might have no connection to Vincent at all, but I get the feeling that there is some real plot twisting going on.

The character in question repeatedly made hints to Vincent about his son. In the end, just before he lets Vincent go, he says something along the lines of "Have I told you about my son? He wants to get in here. But people are telling me he is not all he is cracked up to be. But who knows what he could do, right?"

I interpretted this in two different ways. Firstly, this character is Vincent's actual father (and he does in fact look a bit like the younger version of Vincent's father that the film shows near the beginning) and he was referring to Vincent when he was discussing his son. This of course makes for the great reunion, only to be broken up because Vincent had to leave for Titus. The only problem I see with this is that Vincent's brother (the police detective) tells Vincent earlier that "both of our parents died thinking they had outlived you." If that is true, then it can't be Vincent's father. But maybe the brother was mistaken.

Secondly, I interpretted this incident as the tester guy being the real Jerome (played by Jude Law) character's father. Since Vincent was trying to pass himself off as Jerome, this has great significance. Also, Jerome was crippled in that car accident, so the "people telling me he is not all he is cracked up to be" talk might be referring to that.

I probably am only overanalyzing this movie because it is one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, movies of all time. Like I say, there may be no connection at all save that he is just a stranger who understands what Vincent went through and was going through, and wanted to help. But I would like the movie much better if one of my two scenarios above turned out to be the actual events.

    Thoughts?

I saw a website that somebody posted not too long ago where you could read about the movies and view trailers of upcoming movies. I tried to use the search option and couldn't find the website using several methods. Can anybody post this website again please. Thank you.
