    KT has a role.

It is called playing the low and high post.

Don't go way out into pigeon-holing land by saying a guard-oriented offense all of a sudden cannot utilize a post player. That's like saying we have no room for Drexler's drop step or Cassell's dribble penetration into the lane.

It took us a long time to get to the point where we all agreed that Rudy has rolled out a new offense, let's not start pigeon-holing again by saying PFs have limited roles. That's not true.

Also, RF34, what exactly is a pick-n-roll offense? Do you mean by that guard-oriented offenses don't have a pick-n-roll? (I know, I know, you're referring to Utah.) Man, what This BBS needs is someone who will turn Rockets video into Flash animations. hehe

Guard oriented offense in my eyes is everything is initiated by the guard. The guard penetrates or is doubled, everything evolves thereafter. I mean they can run pick and rolls from time to time but not like utah.

The problem is that the guard oriented offense, this doesn't fully utilize what I think is one of Kenny's best assets: his passing skills.

    you are pigeon-holing this offense.

Everything about Utah is initiated by the guard. They simply got so good at about 2 entries, their guard-oriented offense began to look like a "system". We have many similar plays to theirs, we just run more different plays than them. Utah's offense design is not anything special, and certainly nothing worth dubbing as one of 3 things you can do in This League: triangle, pick-n-roll, post-up.

Utah is very one-dimensional because no one can stop the Malone-Stockton pick-n-roll, so they will run it (and it's 101 options if you let Stockton into the lane) until you say "Uncle".

Before you say their is only 3 offenses, tell me what Portland, San Antonio and Indiana play. Also, LA is NOT playing a triangle. This is becoming a big Media mantra for writers who need a Sega-Genesis menu to select an offense.

I know San Antonio plays what we use to do a post up offense.
Portland and Indiana I have not seen enough so I don't even know their offense. There are only 3 offenses which I know very well, Utah's, Rockets, and the Lakers.

Well LA started out as a triangle but then I guess Shaq was too dominant not to use a post up offense. So now everything revolves around him. Especially now since he can hit free-throws.

They way I see it... 3 offenses

    1. Guard is focus of offense(Sixers)
    2. Big Man is focus of offense(SA)
    3. Combination(Utah)

Remember after the draft, when Jerry West said Kenny Thomas was the guy they wanted? Had the Rockets not taken KT, there's a good chance he could be starting right now for a team that's winning 80% of their games. With his passing and cutting skills, his nose for the ball and knack for finding the hoop, he could really be a force in that Triangle offense. Kenny Thomas starting on the best team in the NBA as a rookie? Think about that the next time you say he can't be our "Power Forward of the future".

"One man's trash may be other man's treasure."

The reason most people don't think Kenny will be our PF of the future is our guard-oriented offense requires the PF and C to score on garbage buckets and play great d. Kenny isn't that type while Rogers is. Kenny actually has some post up moves and would be better suited in a pick and roll or post up offense to fully utilize his passing skills.
