Vince Carter and T-Mac put up identical numbers last year. And as I recall one was an MVP candidate and the other didn't even make All-NBA. This year their numbers are relatively the same give and take a rebound and an assist. Do you think we would be the same if we swapped!? Not me, I think we would be 25-52 instead.

If I would be content with these identical stats if we were ousted in 6 or 7. I can't judge that from now. I have to watch the game to see how it all went down. We could've lost due to fouling too much, not getting defensive stops, the refs screwing up, Luther Head bricking wide open shots(like last year). Unless I see T-Mac step to the line and brick 2FT while the game is in the balance or he settles for contested 20 footers in the clutch I can't say. But one sure thing is what he's doing now certainly as led us to 52 wins and counting including a 22 game winning streak. I don't see Lebron's 30,7,7 leading the Cavs to even a 10 game streak nor 50 wins IN THE LEASTERN CONFERENCE.

To think this is the guy who said we would be the same with Maggete or Caron Butler if we swapped. There is at least 30 GM's who would give BOTH players up for T-Mac if given the chance and the GM who gives up T-Mac for that will not have a job tomorrow and won't be seeing one again.

do you think tmac will put up these stats in the playoffs? check his past. it's obvious he's not going all out all 4 quarters to conserve his energy and pace himself. he's picking and choosing his spots when he's really aggressive.

but like i said, he has played jordan-like in the playoffs and lost (v. pistons, v. dallas, v. charlotte). we are going to need the role players to play like they did v. the streak and clippers if we want to win (along with tmac playing his usual playoff role).

and please, put vince carter on this team and sees what happens. corey and caron would put us in the 13th seed rather than the 5th seed.

I say USG not minutes, raising USG means that the ball is more in his hands than before, so, more assists, more points, without actually playing better.

Do you have a site where i can get T-Mac with Yao and without FG%?

What this tells me is that the people on this board are just satisfied with winning in the regular season. Your stats can tell you alot about player. Does he have that drive and hunger for championship. If he's does you're going to see that across the board in his stats. Tmac's stats have basically remain the same. This is a guy that's taking the easy road and thinking that you can turn it on in the playoffs. It don't work like that folks. I think tmac can be the best player in the NBA, but he just doesn't take that approach. He just contempt on staying the same. There's no reward for staying the same, you have to improve.

Why are we even having this convo? T-MAC led us to what we have now...he opens the defense up making it easier for guys like scola, if you watched the clippers game closely you would have seen that. T-MAC gets injured alot but he has proven himself playing with it, and to the guy saying that many GMS would kill to have him is absolutely right...
If your so dead on the stats, why doesn't lebron lead his team to win as much? He has verajoa, ilgauskus, ben wallace, west, and good handful of players i cant name! If you listen to some of the announcers during the streak they were wondering how the "nobodies" were doing all this, well..our nobodies are just as good as T-MAC holds them to be, Scola has emerged due to him, and just because he isnt playing like he did in orlando throwing up 40 + every night doesnt mean you would always win like that, there are games you would need that, but i prefer this T-MAC thats getting his team mates involved and gives an even scoring distribution to the team, notice how we normally win when that happens?

He won't be improving, he is at his prime, he will be playing his best and smartest basketball. Of course, none of us are satisfied with our current record, we want the playoffs. But many of us (including me) find it atrocious to even say T-mac was not a big part of the winning streak as well as our current record. T-mac doesn't deserve all the credit, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve any.

IMO he is improving not statistically, but in terms of maturity. He relies on his teammates more, instead of trying to take over, he helps his teammates take over. Of course, this can't be shown statistically, in fact, its shown negatively statistically since he'll be giving up more shots, and instead of being the offense, flow with the offense.

I'm most excited about the playoffs. T-mac is probably the most underrated playoff performer, I didn't think he was so special in the playoffs until I read an article that showed T-mac's playoff stats. And its absolutely insane. He puts up big numbers, big assists and rebounds alot as well. Now that we have a more reliable line up, I want to see how his numbers will show in playoffs.

Tmac's assists are down because he doesn't have to do EVERYTHING for this team like he had to last year and in 04-05. If you remember his first season here, he would bring the ball up, and then run a play with Yao, and try to either score or create a play for other people. 05-06 was a wasted season, but then last year, Yao got better, but when he got hurt, Tmac had to bring the ball up a lot, run a pick and roll with Deke or Hayes a lot, then have to try and get open shots for the 3 pt shooters.

When you have the ball in your hands ALL the time, as he did in JVG's offense, of course your numbers will be up. He averaged 6.5 apg, because he had to in order for the team to win. He took more shots, so he could get a better rythem going. When Yao was there, he had easy shots.

Plus in 04-05 and last year, Tmac was for the most part injury free. Not the case this year: elbow, knee, thumb, and shoulder have all been issues for him this year. If you remember the beginning of the year, when the Rockets were playing the get the ball to Yao/Tmac offense instead of Adelman's offense, Tmac had a few 40 pt. games, and shot the ball very well. But then all of those injuries came one right after the other and its taken its toll on him.

This year, once the team figured out the offense, Tmac and Yao's numbers went down, but thats because we have a much more balanced team around our 2 superstars. They can't win it on their own, and Adelman knows that. He is able to get 5-6 players in double figures now, where as JVG was hoping he could get 3 players in double figures. Adelman also wanted Tmac and Yao to be the finisher of plays, rather than always creating, so his assists numbers are down because of that. He was shooting well before the injuries, and if the team is doing better, I could care less how much he averages. If he doesn't have to avg 32 ppg, then thats fine, if we win its all good.

    Ehsan.

Im just trying to clarify you're position because i know you have been mostly defending yourself against others' points.

Is everyone else carrying tmac? What level of player is he in your eyes?

Do you think that our role players are just better than other teams (ie. Nash's suns, Dirk's mavericks)? If not, is our chemistry better than theirs? Since tmac is just there, excluding him, what is the reason for all of our success at winning at such a high clip (52+ games)?

If the Rockets win the whole shebang, or even get out of the first round with McGrady doing jack, I would be content.

I'm a Rockets fan first and foremost, and seeing this team succeed if the most important thing for me. Whether or not T-Mac is playing as well as last year or to the best of his capabilities is irrelevant. The "W's" for the team is what I look for.

No disrespect to T-Mac, but the reason I root for him is because he's a ROCKET. I couldn't care less about him when he was in Orlando or Toronto.

Being a Rockets player though, sure I want to see him dominate like he did back then. But since the team's winning, I don't really care about his stats.

Whether or not he's a "superstar" he's "statistically underachieving", not "living up to the salary" is beside the point. HE'S HELPING THE ROCKETS WIN! and that my, IMO, is the most important things.

Most Important statline of the season = 52-25 (with wins counting!)

Ya'll can talk about, disect, and complain all you want on T-Mac, but the real factor for us succeeding in the playoffs will depend on Rafer, B Jax, Head, Scola, Landry, Battier, and Deke (and Adleman's system). The only reason we lost last year to Utah was because we had NO consistent bench or role player production. We had a game where only 4 players scored!!! How ridiculous is that?

So all this "T-Mac needs to do this and that" and comparing him to other players on other teams is really irrelevant in my opinion. Our role players HAVE to come to play. You see what happens when they do, we win 22 games in a row!

But you have to put up that he has been healthy most of the season, led the team to some nice victories, put himself as a real leader as Yao went out etc.

T-Mac also played the best basketball of his carrer during the 22-game winning streak and has 52 plus win team with him, what do you want else?

I don't believe basketball stats so much, well Tim Duncan has avg of lets say 19 ppg and Zach Randolph has 22 ppg and better FG%, who's better?

    That's what I tought...

Not gonna play the semantics game here. The one part about scoring admittedly didnt convey my meaning and went slightly against some things mentioned. The "go back to 33 pts a game" meant his years ago Orlando form that was satisfactory in all statistical categories, that got him the 20 mil in the first place. I guess fair's fair, you cherry picked my one point like I did to one of yours.

I mentioned McGrady can shoot better (be more efficient) and can be better on D (being a stronger supporter), which is basically agreeing.

I dont like as much as anyone that he's in the Danny Granger/Stephen Jackson range in efficiency instead of with the top players. Remove his actual pay, I dont coddle him, sure he could be better in certain areas. And certainly he should bring it every night instead of "turning it on" for the playoffs. But he's been a busted up ass player for a while and producing within reason.

And the one skill he does bring is command of an offense that only a handful of players in the league have that this team certainly needs.

How can some people still consider Tmac a superstar is beyond me.

He has the absolutely worst FG% among all of the star players, yet he takes more shoots than almost all of them, only second to Kobe, who shoots at 46%, compared to Tmac's sympathetic 42%.

Added the fact that Tmac always tends to be lazy on the defensive end -- he sometims plays great defense, but only SOMETIMES -- Tmac nowadays is more frustrating than inspiring to watch.

Rox are doomed that they simply can't find a way to trade away Tmac's contract and get some decent return in the near future. :(

    Except that,

    Zach: 17.8 ppg, 46%
    Tim: 19.5ppg, 50%

Oh I watch the games(though sometimes I am unable to be near a TV so use radio to listen.)

Like I have said before, the only portion of your argument that holds water is that T-Mac's shooting percentages are down. His assists are down because he doesnt have to make all the plays and the Rockets can score without him even touching the ball. His rebounds are pretty close so thats a wash. His FGAs are down because again, he doesnt have to do it all. Sure, sometimes the play breaks down and he finds the ball in his hands with the shot clock winding down, but it happens a lot less than it did last year.

And basing it off the more recent games, his FG% is also down because he is being fouled on many drives(sometimes he isnt though) where there is no call. And I am not talking ticky tack D-Wade type of fouls, I mean solid "don't come in here expecting to get thru clean" type fouls. This is also an inverse of not going to the line as much. The national media of TNT noted this several times a few games back that he was not getting the calls. Though Collins did say like an idiot that if you shoot jumpers you dont get calls(when T-Mac was around 50-50 J to drive).

I will not disagree that he is missing more 18 footers coming off picks than he should be. That should be almost automatic for a player of his caliber. But you seem to take your single solid point and want to extrapolate that out to other areas to make your analysis of said single point seem more legitimate.

    I totally agree.

First of all he doesn't have to do it all and you are right he doesn't get any calls, which are obvious.

As for those 18-footers comming off the pick - he's been making them so well. I feel like 90% of those plays are money for him, he is just simply always making them. I would only like us to run those plays more often.

hmm so what you want is the celtics game? Where they denied tmac the ball, he only shot like 8 times? Everyone has said over and over again...its not all about stats. Another reason dude to his low FG% and points is he gets fouled when he drives to the basket but doesnt get any calls. When your FG% goes down your points can actually go up cuz you get more free throws. To all the idiots who say Tracy is holding us back or w.e why were we so much worse when he was out and it was only yao...
These are the boneheads that only see "superstars" as the T-MAC orlando who had 33+ pts every game or the D-WAYDE who leads the worst team in the league or perhaps even LBJ who has a pretty sorry record in the cupcake eastern conference...
