It was the first time that I was at the game tonight, and good seats too (2nd row). But what I saw was: 1. Steve Francis' first scoreless game in his career; 2. Steve's first ejection in his career; Man, what was that?? Maybe I should just stay home and watch TV. Looks like Steve got hurt a little bit (in the mouth) on the flagrant too. Man, I was really hoping to see a good game from him, but he looked like totally lost, very hesitant too. But I believe it's just one game. They lost by 9 points, but the game was never close after the first quater. Van Excel was on fire, and Steve got burnt badly. One bright spot is Dream still has game, although not in very good physical shape (even my girl friend said "You know, Hakeem doesn't have any energy any more ..." -- she hadn't watched a Rockets game for a long time). One other thing, don't buy the Nachos at the Summit, it sucks.
Sitting that close you should have got a good look at Steve spitting his tooth out after that flagrant!!
I think Stevie may have been toking on some really good weed before the game... Didja notice that before the flagrant and right before KT's technical that everyone was lined up for free-throws and Stevie was at the other end of the court shooting layups? What was that all about? We discussed alot of possibilities for Stevie's poor performance in chat last night and we deduced that Stevie was probably stoned... later rockHEAD
Steve got ejected in a game against Dallas a few monts ago for about the same thing. nevermind [This message has been edited by Houston Rocks (edited February 25, 2000).]
I was at the game in Dallas when Stevie got ejected. He threw a weak punch that barely missed (by about 6 feet) Robert Pack and Steve Nash. It was a ridiculous ejection. Plus, the main reason I went was to see Stevie play live and up close. Then he gets thrown out in the first quarter. AAAAGH! But I did shake Chuck's hand during pre-game warm ups. He was on the sidelines and even walked up a level to hold a baby. Then I trotted down and told him hello, he smiled, and shook my hand. I told him good luck and to kick Nowitzki's ass. Of coursem Houston lost miserably.
Well my seat was on the other end when he got ejected everybody stood up and started booing the refs, I just saw Stevie waling to the locker room with his hand over his mouth and shaking his head. For I moment I thought he broke a tooth (or did he?). It was a ugly game and the fans were so quite and frankly very indifferent. Some of the people around me never cheered or stood up, and a lot of people left during the third quater. It was then I fully understood why we lost the referendum vote -- people who actually go to the game are supposedly more enthusiastic fans than those who don't (or is that right?), and those people were very apathetic to say the least. Sailor
i went to a game(well the year before the stike when they were contending still) and the seats were suprisingly good we got the tickets from this doctor anyway full house sold out against the jazz...the whole time these two prom queens sat behind me and they just talked..the WHOLE time...it was like they werent even at the game or the game was a background to the social situation and "what this person was wearing and that person was wearing" I really didnt understand then this other guy sitting near me saying to his friend when the people he came with left to the bathroom "yeah I hate basketball i want to get outta here....i just brought them because they are my clients we'll probably leave after the 3rd quarter..." the haves and the have nots..... sad and sickening...why go?...I dont understand what the deal is with that...? maybe there really is a bunch of bandwagoners in houston..referendum? yeah right not with those people...it woudl appear that way at least at the summit excuse me compaq center....
and what about that fine? 10K?? i think that's a bit outrageous. It seems to me like the NBA wants to instill some fear in these new players or make this some sort of "this fine will set an example" type thing? 10 grand does seem awfully high.. like stevie... h i g h. . i n t h e a i r. . . g l i d i n g t o t h e b a s k e t . . . uh... later rockHEAD
Ok, here is my opinion. I believe Francis is a winner and is getting frustrated with the lack of D being played by the Rockets. The Rockets need an enforcer in the middle so when these quick guards get by Mobley and Francis ( which happens often) there is someone there to hammer them so they dont get an easy layup. Francis's flagrant foul was a message to his teamates IMHO. Also the Rockets all need to get on the same page when playing D.
