Stellar performance by Rose against the Horns. He's had a great tournament so far and has turned me into a believer. He's got about the best build and athletecism you could want out of a pg. And unlike other athletic freaks, he seems to have the mind to back it up (9 assists against the Horns). He's been one of their clutch performers and a fierce competitor also. He has a little Battier like qualities in that he does what's necessary to win... his coach was praising him for that on College Gameday.
Rose not only made himself look like even more of a stud yesterday, he probably cost Augustin some money. Alarming how Rose blew by his man (wasn't guarded by DJ most of the time) at will and created all day for Memphis, while Augustin couldn't make anything happen for himself or others. Rose has explosion matched with great instincts and a passing mentality. Really strikes me as Jason Kidd Jr. Evan
I think Rose is a bit overrated as a current player. CDR is the glue of that team. Amazing talent, yes, but I don't see a refined player at all yet. His shooting efficiency and assist efficieny are also nowhere near what it should be for a PG on such a loaded team. Let's watch him in the half court versus a disciplined and tough defensive team like UCLA before calling him JK part 2.
I was curious how he'd perform against a smart, disciplined team like UCLA myself and he just continues to impress. No joke, I think at this point I would take him with the first pick over Beasley. Quality NBA PG's are so hard to come by. As incredible as Beasley has been and will be, Rose is going to be a franchise altering PG on the next level.
I have to agree. Even if a team has a talented PG, you take Rose because he can alternate and play off the ball. If Rose becomes a deadly mid-range shooter, he could be an MVP candidate type of player in the NBA.
Are you kidding me? Overrated? He's regarded by pratically scout as the best point guard prospect in years, and probably can be as good, if not better than Chris Paul. His athleticism is off the charts, along with superb ballhandling, and most importantly, he has great intangibles for a point guard. You probably don't watch a lot of Memphis games, no offense CDR is great college player, but he is no way the heart of that team. He and the Tigers couldn't get past the Final Four last year because they lacked a true point guard that could provide that backcourt leadership. I think if anything, Kevin Love is overrated, just slightly. The reason I say that is because most of America who don't know anything about the Bruins will probably cite Kevin Love as their best player, and probably the only player that they know about. Yes, his passing ability and low-post ability are amazing, but some of that can be countered in the NBA (not saying he won't be a solid player though). Collison is the heart and soul of that team, and that showed tonight when he.....choked.
Rose was great--and yes very impressive to do that versus UCLA, but so was CDR. I didn't mean Rose was overrated as a NBA prospect, more in terms of current assessment as a well rounded PG. In terms of intangibles, that is where I see a need for improvement--his shot selection (and jumper accuracy) leads some to be desired and his assists are not great for a PG. I also saw him take some undisciplined shots in the the half court, his half court floor leadership has some room to grow--though at least a couple of times his team got the ORB so they scored anyway. Also, it was CDR, not Rose who was CUSA player of the year and 1st team all-america. CDR currently is the better college basketball player in most peoples minds. Rose reminds me of a minny Lebron. But I am not yet ready to say he is as sure of thing of Paul or Williams were. Right now he is Deron Williams without as much polish but I'll give you maybe a tad more raw athleticism than Deron (and thus perhaps a tad higher upside). I'd still take Beasley first, Rose 2nd. Oh, and I have been way more wrong than right, but I expect Memphis to handle Kansas.
I know I'm going to get burned, flamed and torched for saying this but Rose reminds me a lot of Stephon Marbury in terms of build, getting to the hole and finishing, the pull-up, dribbling and his overall ability to flat out score. Now I know, Marbury has declined a lot and he's a knucklehead that never made his teammates better or possessed the intangibles to win. However, looking at him from a purely statistical point he was pretty damn good early on in his career and I think Rose will put up similar numbers with better rebounding if he lives up to the hype.
Oh how I wish our first rounder, Scola-or-Landry and expirings for an albatross contract could get us in the conversation, but alas a dream. I do wonder though if Beasley and Rose are the clear #1 and #2, what happens if Memphis gets #2 and Rose is there? They are already overloaded with young points. Also Chicago with Hinrich. Some point guards could become expendable on draft day.
They will take Rose because his size and athleticism make him versatile enough to play SG. Maybe they trade Conley for something good of they don't want to pair them.
Man though, taking a guy like Rose and putting him at SG would be like taking an elite shortstop or catcher and playing him in the outfield.
If Minnesota or Seattle get Rose get ready for the West to get even stronger. Miami can win the draft lottery and take Beasley. He'd be a fine fit there but in all liklihood the 2nd pick will go to Minnesota and Seattle. If that's the case, look out everybody if Rose gets paired up with Al Jefferson or Kevin Durant.
If I was the GM of the following teams with the first pick, I would select... Heat, Rose Sonics, Rose TWolves, Beasley Knicks, Beasley Grizzlies, Rose There are plenty of great forwards in the league. But there are very few great PGs.
Agreed. I didn't mean full-time at SG. Rose is versatile enough to slide over and get paired with a smaller PG like Conley and they can switch duties based on matchups and game situations. The bottom line for me is Memphis (or any team in your scenario) MUST take Rose. For the Grizz, maybe that means trading Conley. Or if they still have high hopes for Conley, play them together. Any GM that passes on Rose at #2 or trades the pick should be flogged by fans.
Yeah, and the T-Wolves already have Al Jefferson at power forward. They could definitely use a top notch PG to pair up with Jefferson.
Grizzlies have like 3 young PGs and they dont have anybody in the 4 really, unless the Grizzlies want to depend on Hakim Warrick
