You're entitled to your opinion but you're wrong. If he were a risk to sign for "more", it would have happened in the summer of 2007 NOT this summer. After 2 seasons, the Rockets had his Early Bird Rights. They could have easily kept him. NO will keep him for the same reasons.
We definitely needed the PG depth after the Mike James experiment failed. BJ is instant offense off the bench. Meanwhile, Bonzi was a FT shooting liability and couldn't play any defense. Good trade for Houston to bring in another veteran.
Gater, You have got to be kidding me? You like Bonzi Wells? He is just one signature on the dotted line away from being a fat tub of goo again, and is only really effective with a good PG these days. Please tell me you would not have kept Bonzi over Bjax... DD
Yeah, from a well known Bonzi hater. BJ = Bonzi - James. That is the reason we got rid of Bonzi. I'd rather have Bonzi (with all his faults) than BJ in the playoffs.
Not me...we need an alternative to when Rafer is sucking balls...........Bonzi would have been behind too many players...and would not have gotten many minutes. We needed a veteran PG that can shoot ......and knows the system.... Still a good trade. DD
BJ is shooting 42% which must be cause he had a lot of good games lately. Bonzi is shooting 50% with NO. Even with us he was shoot 42.5%. BJ is not a good passer, but at least he ain't turning it over a lot.
Ugh, not apples to apples.....Bonzi's improved shooting is directly a result of playing with Chris Paul where he can get the ball to Bonzi in an attacking position. In Houston, Bonzi was being asked to create, and mroe often than not he was failing.....his post up game was non existent, his defense poor, and his FT shooting anemic. Honestly, Bonzi fits better in New Orleans.....where he can play as an attacking Wing, and play off all the attention CP3 gets. DD
<--- happy as hell bonzi is gone I would be physically ill every that guy took a outside shot... especially if he made one, b/c then it meant he'd be taking more of them. BJ is great and proven playoff winner, Bonzi had one nice playoff run but he's been garbage every other time/place he's been.
who in the world would bonzi be behind in our current rotation? as the only other guy besides tmac who can command a double team, he was always and would always be the first guy off the bench. we didnt send him away to make room for mike harris. and i don't really buy that it was the only way to find landry more minutes. if anything, having bonzi would allow us to get battier and tmac more rest; as is, adelman is wary of having both of them sit at the same time so both players are logging heavy minutes in an effort to assure that at least one of them remains on the court at all times. bonzi may not have been a great shooter but he was an aggressive guard with real size (again, the only one on our roster that fits that definition besides tmac) that more often than not looked to attack the basket. when he did settle for jumpers, he wasn't any more horrendous at it than the rest of they guys we have on our bench. his ability to take guards into the post and suck in the defense will be sorely missed in the playoffs, regardless of how you feel about him personally.
Bonzi's minutes were declining as Landry's went up, Morey is the one who said that. If you doubt what Morey is saying then there is not point in having a discussion. DD
I agree that it was nice having a big guard that could rest Tracy... those are good points Dookie, but I'm sure Bonzi wasn't the answer. Now that MJ is gone we ought to be able to bring someone else in during the off season.
Yes Bonzi can back up Shane & TMac, but we have more options at those positions. Bonzi was pretty good at steals but terrible at help D. Rafer can't play all 48 mins and to rely on a rookie PG to play important minutes in the playoffs is very, very dangerous (SC excepted of course ) . Besides, who's better for locker-room chemistry and for experience? Good trade IMO.
