http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23494953-2,00.html havent seen this posted, made me wanna puke, also very inconsiderate on their part for increased chances of having defects in their children. thoughts? I'm from australia and rarely hear of this kind of stuff, does it happen in america much?
Yikes. But no worries. There are people like this everywhere. That video made my stomach twist in knots...
Wow, I clicked on this thread expecting some sort of taboo subject mater. I am sad to see that my assumption was correct.
Geez.... shouldn't the law have a more strict punishment for these??? Why do Australians like these kinds of relationships?? just kidding
This is sick!! Seriously.. WTF???! So what is the medical/biological reason for these health defects? Is anyone a biology major who can explain this?
I'm no expert.. in fact I barely scored a B on all my bio classes... however I was told that you shouldn't mate with a family member [aside from the fact that it's frickin gross] because everyone has some kinda imperfection/defect in their genes. If you hook up with someone else then hopefully you can override those bad genes and prevent it from being passed to your child by getting the genes from the other parent. If you hook up with a family member, most likely you have the same imperfection as they do so it has a higher chance of being passed down. ok that was my $0.02. Could be wrong, but even so, at least I got the part about it being gross correct.
There are not always birth defects in inbred children but the chances for birth defects rise greatly in these type of children. The reason is inbreeding may result more harmful recessive genes than are normally expected or there and then this results in a bad phentoype development.
And leads to increased chances of birth defects in future generations. They may have dodged a bullet with this child, but grand children on down are still vulnerable. Pretty irresponsible all the way around. If they just have to be involved with each other, why do they have to procreate? Very selfish.
Always jokes about it in Arkansas or Appalachia, but don't recall hearing of actual instances. Sure they exist though.
Yes this is true but give me props for remembering that much from biology of the cell years ago in college.

Oh, I was totally impressed with your post. I just thought I should help translate it into English. Mine was an agreement with additional information post, not a contradiction.
Everyone carries recessive genes for various deformities. Usually you pair up with someone who has the dominant "normal" version of this gene, and your child will not have any ill effects. However, if two people are carrying the same recessive gene, there is a 1 in 4 chance that a child of theirs will be affected with that ailment. It happens occasionally anyway, but if both parents come from the same genetic material, they have a lot higher chance of both carrying the same recessive gene. and as for the subject... eeewwww. Family relationships are not supposed to be sexual. You just should not think of them like that. If for some reason you should find yourself wanting to, you stop it or ignore it. And what about their child? How do you explain that their father and grandfather are the same person, or why there's only one side of the family to go to for holidays? Will they grow up thinking that all family members are fair game? Ideally such a kid should be removed from this kind of relationship and raised far, far away never knowing where they really came from. That is just gross.
Or a more productive way is to just jump off a cliff. If you involve yourself in a family relationship, most likely you're kids are gonna be deformed and become evil villains that like to kill and eat people. Haven't you guys seen...? Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler
As much as this goes against my morality, daughter and dad are two consenting adults. If this is what makes them happy (in its own special **cked up way), they should go for it. Their children though should be treated just like we currently treat crack babies. On a lighter note of complicated family relationships ... Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter Who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son. My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandmother too. If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild. For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa
