cabbage, i totally agree. I was speaking of the many people on this board who have spoken this year about his lack of play designing etc and the ones who have said he should be fired. I am actually kinda shocked though I would have thought Rudy would wait til he knows where the team will be before signing a extension like that

i just want to let it be known that i'm a huge rudy fan but on sports stations etc some people seem to not like him. all coaches make mistakes sometiems and he is doing a great job coaching this team. i've had the chance to meet rudy more then a few times and he is truly a class act. good luck rudy couldn't have happend to a nicer guy. rudy and calvin rule

You know at the beginning of the year I said Rudy sucks and he needs to get fired. But now in my mind he is one of the best coaches and I see why. Im glad we have him here.

Rudy is a great coach that is VERY patient.
When Houston was gettin killed tonight at the beginning, I was thinking for a while that everybody(Rockets only) was slacking for tonight ( not knowing that everyone esle would also slack) just because today they all realized that they were not going to get traded OR go to the playoffs this year. They all played like (fikdjdkIT) if you know what I mean. Even though it was not enough, Houston made a slight comeback to make me believe that they will try to win no matter what! and if it werent for Rudy , that would not have happened.

I saw Rudy on Channel 2 tonight..he looked as happy as he could look after a miserable loss. He complimented Les and I think we should too.

Of course he's happy! And I'm happy to have him here! He's...

    Loves the game...
One of the best coaches in the league...
    Terrific basketball mind...
The guy's been in the organization forever...
Every player seems to love him...
Really kills himself to make this team better...
Yet is still underappreciated for the good he's done for the city.

I'm glad Rudy's staying. He has an eye for diamonds in the rough. I mean, who else would have picked Horry, Cassell, Mobley, Thomas, etc. in the league. He has an eye for talent that the rest of the league doesn't see. He's also a players' coach. Even though we're as bad as Dallas this season, unlike Dallas, Houston is a team that can always attract quality players. Rudy is committed to winning. Players respect that.

I agree with G-Man. I think Rudy and CD are the best in the league in finding talent where other people don't. Look at how many CBA people they brought in over the years at times when we had injuries. They didn't just sit the bench, they contributed to the team and were able to compete against anyone in the NBA. Congrats to Rudy.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW UNFAIRLY THE ROCKS HAVE BEEN TREATED. once again les is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure one of the nba's top coach's is locked up. les has proven time and time again that he is dedicated to spending money to win. its just sad that the astros who keep cutting payroll have the new stadium and not the rocks

do ya''ll think this contract extension had anything to do with the fact that les knows people in houston love rudy and he thought extending his contract would help the vote pass? i'm just surprised rudy would extend when the future of the franchise is uncertain

    Rocket Fan -- exactly.

Same (and only) reason the Astros hired Larry Dierker, IMO.

    Ah .......guys .........

......... contract was an organizational contract. To serve in "any capacity" for the Rocket's organization until "such and such" a time. I mean let's face it, who in their right mind would have thought that RT would ever have been fired from the only company he has ever worked for?

    Maybe:

    "Moved" to the front office.
    "Readjusted" to other important duties.
    "Accepting" newer responsibilities.
    "Promoted" to _______________.
"Going" to "concentrate" on _______ more.
    "Consultant" to the new coach.
"Personal" reflection and more time with the family.

But never ever traded out or fired. He is a fixture.
