I found out about Billy Joel when I heard his song "For the longest time" in Alvin and the Chipmunks.. a long time ago. Anyone can find that song sung by the chipmunks?
I hate Billy Joel. He is the worst. I was honestly thinking the other day about just how much I hate him. It's a lot. Piano Man makes me want to kill people. I think only Hobbits like that song. The Allentown video was played on MTV constantly when it came out. It was pure torture. I still don't like it, and I like 99% of '80s songs now that I hated then.
I always want to like Billy Joel, but he's always a few lyrics away from making it possible. Sometimes the tune will be catchy enough, but then it will mesh with some of corniest lines in the world trying to pass from something clever, and it will ruin the whole song for me. That being said, I think "Don't Ask Me Why" would my favorite.
When I was in elementary school, we had to run laps during PE at the start of the school year and back from Christmas vacation for a couple of weeks. The PE teachers had a record player hooked up to large amps or speakers and would play music, usually the same rotation of songs and we used to run to We Didn't Start the Fire a lot. That was my first intro to Billy Joel, but I'm glad over the years I've heard a lot more. We also ran to this song called Wild Wild West, but I can never remember the groups name.
