I don't see this being a big deal. It's all good fun. I'm sure I will go down early. I just wonder what the 'secret weapon is'. The Stanford Tree had a secret weapon too.

I think Oielpere should go against popeye.

gr81, look at it this way: If you actually made it into the tourny, then you're the elite on the board. I've done forgot how many registered posters there are on the board, but it's in the thousands. Be grateful. I am. :)

I love this idea. If someone gets upset because they are not well liked enough, screw them. It is all in good fun.

Now, that being said, if I get eliminated in the first round, I'll scream and scream until you all realize how much I HATE YOU!

    ;)

Seriously, though, I am perfectly happy to be first round fodder. Bring it on!

It's an honor just to be nominated.

As for matchups, post count seems like an easy way to start. Then modify it some, of course, moving quality-if-not-quantity posters like Will, CBFC, and Doc Rocket up as neccessary. You can also move the "I agree" posters down a few notches (you know who you are!). :p

Achebe is cool and all that, but the matchup I want is obvious. I won't mention any names, but his initials are ZRB. :)

pued, why don't you do random seeding? Since it would be random, you would have no problem including yourself :)

Amen. If someone were to get offended and then refuse to post on account of this tournament, that would be an excellent chance for them to really evaluate their priorities.

wow, that didn't require nearly as much b****ing and whining as I thought it might or as I was prepared to do!

yeah for me. I have also decided that I will be the official setter of the line for any and all who want to place wagers on the various matchups.

right now, if you want to bet chievous minniefield to win, the odds are an astounding 750 to 1. but that's what they said about the Patriots, too. of course, they also say that the Patriots are a bunch of no-talent, chump, worst-team-that-ever-
won-a-Super Bowl scrubs, and I hope no one's saying that about me.

seriously, though, it will be interesting to watch and observe the subtle ways that people alter their posting habits during this most social experiment.

will people start posting more often trying to get their name out there? will people start trying to form coalitions and politicking? will there be any backroom side deals like the one I'm discussing with Clutch involving cash transactions in return for favorable matchups and "votes" all the way through to the final round?

never underestimate the heart of a pathologically competitive bbs poster. . .

Of course, the fans inside the Superdome did not vote on who the SuperBowl champ should be.

the posters going up against each other should have thread entitle person A vs person B

and only they can post in it for up to like 5 post each with no regard for length, on any subject they feel like, they can reply to each other or whatever.

then we can read them and vote in the poll that goes along with each thread...

now THAT is a great idea!

rather than having the whole thing revolve solely around popularity and perception, we could make it a true test of posting skill.

maybe we could even have a neutral 3rd party throw out a topic for the 2 posters to expound upon, and may the more interesting, funny, bombastic, classy, intelligent, etc. poster win. . .

the posters could basically post their way to the Poster On High 2002 title. that sounds much better than just post-count or whatever.
