I was wondering is there any laws etc that would prevent Hillary from putting Bill on her ticket as the VP candidate? And if she did this, do you think it would help her campaign? Personally, I hope it remains tied and Gore swoops in ....but a Clinton/Clinton ticket would make it more interesting, right? DD
Bill Clinton can't serve as the Constitutional provision against serving more than two terms as President also applies to VP. Even though they are two different offices Bill couldn't fulfill the office since he couldn't step into the presidency if something happned to Hillary. What could happen though is Hillary states that Bill will be given a cabinet position, like Secretary of State, to make the argument that Bill is going to be involved. I don't think anything like that though, or even if he could be put on the ticket as VP, will make much of a difference to voters. Its obvious already that Bill would play a major role if Hillary wins the Whitehouse.
I think there was an article written about this before. The answer is Yes he can serve as a VP. However, he won't be in the line of succession (this is debatable because the Amendment says people are only prohibited from getting "elected" more than twice to the office)
I think term limits is bad. Where else in a capitalistic society is a person penalized for doing well. I think Bill was a great president.
Legal scholar needed! My understanding is that a President cannot serve for more than two consecutive terms. I am not certain, but I believe that Clinton can serve as President or Vice President as long as at least one 4-year period intervenes, i.e. President ... President ... some other President... President ... President .... some other President... etc. Trust me, though, this would not be healthy for the nation.
Maybe as an attorney I am being too literal, but I think he can be Vice-President and then serve as President if something happens to her. The Amendment only bars a person from being elected President more than 2 times.
I don't think its a legal scholar you need - just a copy of the Constitution Amendment XXII (Ratified February 27, 1951) Section 1 No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President, when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
It doesn't mention a President running as VP at all. Is that it? Looks like a door Bill could walk through, if he wished. I must be missing something. Trim Bush.
Thanks. I was too lazy to look that up. Since I was only 4 years-old at the time, I didn't know that Truman was excepted. I guess they were afraid Ike would win and never step down!
According to this, if Bill Clinton were elected Vice President and something happened to the President, the succession would skip him and go to the Speaker -- Nancy Pelosi!
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. I still don't see where it prevents Bill from running as VP, thumbs. Trim Bush.
not that this will ever happen, but there is no limit on VP terms correct? al gore could easily serve a 3rd term as VP
what if he slipped on my vomit while walking up the steps to take his oath of office? would that prevent it?
