I just wonder why Yao doesnt build a home gym. Looks like he is trainning in a club or TC.

Well.....it did not look as good as it seemed from the pictures.

There were reports/articles flowing around thhese 2 days on sina.com/sohu.com that the wound on Yao Ming's left foot is still quite swollen.

It was reported that Team Yao and Chinese Basketball Association had agreed, and the Rockets had approved that Yao Ming will return to Beijing tomorrow (Thursday April 3) to be checked up by a team of Chinese medical experts, and will start some rounds of therapy/treatment using Chinese traditional medicine. He will stay in Beijing for the next 10 to 15 days before returning to Houston.

I have doubts on the genuiness of those reports/articles, since they were released around April 1. So given the lessons I learnt from the Olajuwon's Return, not sure wheter the news was a haox/April Fool joke. Besides, I thought at his current state, it might not be advisable that he can take such long haul flights.

Well, but this "news" could be verified very soon, as it will either happen or not happen within the next 24 hours.

Will keep you guys posted on the progress.

Not sure if yao has learned how to spend money like a multimillionare. I have not seen any report of him buying any rediculous luxuries. His mom (not a hired chef) used to cook for him and taught his wife how to cook. So he apparently doesn't have a personal chef other than wife.

Therefore, he is making millions while maintaining a middle-class life style. Not sure if this is good for him. Certainly bad for the economy. If he spend like crazy, those greenbacks would go to GDP at least.

agree, his house looks lousy for a multimillionaire. Plus, Houston's real estate is so cheap!!! Literally!

Wouldn't it be safe to say that Yao is doing off-season training. Don't they start lighter in the early part of off-season and get heavier as the off-season progresses?

I haven't been 5'9" since I was about 15 years old so I'd have to lop off 5 inches from my feet or my head. I'm dont know why you think those weights are unrealistic tho. rule of thumb a normal not-particularly-athletic guy who works out should be able to do 1.5 x body weight on bench. for 160 lbs that's 245 on bench. 225 on incline and 85-90 lb dumbells is doing isn't extraordinary at all. I've helped guys get started in lifting who were average joes and after sticking with the program they all can work up to those benchmarks without supplements or anything. you cant cheat using dumbells like most guys do with a bar, including bouncing off your chest, using your back etc that's why guys think barbells are so much harder. I'm sure if he wanted pryuen could dig up pictures of yao doing that same exercise with 120lb+ weights... yao is taking it easy in that picture

Thanks for the info. That's horrible news. I hope it's an April fool joke.
It's 3 April now so it's the news about his wound is still swollen real??
I hope there is no complication on his wound and if there's any swell, I hope it's untrue or it's already gone down.

Well, I think KTY got the caption information mixed up.

That should be Anthony Falsone, his personal trainer, and not David Macha.

As the Rockets is now on its road trip away from Houston, logically, as the strength and conditioning coach of the team, David Macha should be accompanying the team on the road, right?

To get a better feeling of the look/appearance of the 2 of them, the following photo will give you a better idea. The one in the white T-shirt is Anthony Falsone. The one in black is David Macha.

Interesting development........

While CBA officially denied the news of Yao Ming's home-coming, the various Chinese websites, sina.com, sohu.com, tom.com, 163.com, yahoo.com were still all reporting/releasing news that this morning Yao Ming had left Houston and will be arriving tonight (Thursday April 3).

CBA scotches Yao homecoming rumor

The China Basketball Association (CBA) yesterday denied a report from Sina.com that injured Houston Rockets center Yao Ming is returning home some day this week.

"We haven't heard any news about Yao coming home," CBA spokeswoman Wen Ying said. "If he does return to China his agent will inform us in advance. But so far we have not received any information.

"We have no idea about the sources for these reports."

Sina.com said yesterday that Yao, who is sidelined with a season-ending foot injury, is scheduled to return home this week, probably tonight, and will undergo tests by Chinese medical experts.

"In the past, every time Yao returned home there were problems. So this time we are not going to reveal his date of return. I hope media friends will understand our decision," the report quoted Yao's agent Lu Hao as saying.

The report speculated Yao would arrive in Beijing tonight.

Yao recently returned to train his upper body and improve his strength at the gym, but his left foot is still swollen.

A Chengdu Evening Newspaper report said Yao is expected to stay in Beijing for about 10 days, when he will be examined by the nation's bone-injury experts.

The group is then expected to submit a comprehensive report to the CBA.

According to the report, China's head coach Jonas Kazlauskas, who is currently in charge of a closed-door training camp in Beijing, will have detailed discussions with Yao about his injury in order to set up a training plan.

As Yao's fitness for the Games is in doubt, Kazlauskas and his coaching staff have been checking out "no-Yao" tactics.

The 2.28 m all-star center, crucial to China's hopes of making the top six at the Olympics, and a favorite to be the country's flag bearer at the opening ceremony, was diagnosed with a stress fracture in late February and then had successful surgery in the US.

According to NBA.com, Yao is set to undergo a four-month rehabilitation. Rockets team physician Tom Clanton, who performed the surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center early last month, is optimistic about Yao's recovery before the Beijing Games.

It's his money and I care less about his spending habits and enconomy. But I think a home gym is a must a professional like him. He shouldnt drive around to just work out, which is a waste of time and puts toll on his legs just to cram into the car.
