    Again we don't know all the details. Nobody is asking for an excuse just saying wait for all the details to emerge before we make a final judgment.


    FWIW, a lot of crimes are dismissed for this reasoning. Sad but true.

    Pfft...unless you've personally miscarried in an airplane lavatory before, I'm sure your guess is as good as mine as to what was going through that woman's head at the time.

    Feel free to believe what you want. Just don't sit there and roll your eyes at those of us who choose to abstain from making a judgment until we hear the whole story.

    Even though they haven't decided if a crime has been commited...

    I think this is sad. I bet some of your are going to feel sorry for her because she's 14. I don't if you're old enough to have sex you're old enough to tell someone a baby just came out of your body and not dump it in the trash. Dead or alive. How did she know it was dead anyway? I bet she's not a doctor.

    It's gross. If I personally found the dead baby in the trash, I would think whoever put it there was SICK.

    HOUSTON -- A 14-year-old girl has been questioned about a stillborn fetus found in an airplane's trash bin, officials told KPRC Local 2.
    Houston police said a cleaning crew found the fetus in a lavatory after flight 433 from New York's LaGuardia Airport arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday. Investigators said the fetus was discovered at about 5:15 p.m., nearly 15 minutes after passengers got off the aircraft.
    The fetus was taken to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, where it was determined the fetus was not viable, officials said.

    The FBI is involved in the investigation and working with Houston police to determine if a crime was committed. If detectives determine there was a crime, the agencies would decide jurisdiction over the case based on the approximate time the crime occurred.

    No.

    A jury may decide that because of such issues a crime can be mitigated but not dismissed. There is a huge difference. In either case, a jury cannot dismiss a case, only the DA can dismiss a case and I guarantee you the DA doesn't dismiss "a lot" of cases for this reason.

    Actually, it's not. It's for the legislature to decide and for the judges and juries to apply.

    I really didn't mean dismissed but I meant where the defendant is found to be innocent or whatever. You knew that you were just trying to be technical.

    Charges unlikely for teen who left fetus in trash

    An eighth-grader returning to Houston from a school field trip in New York left a stillborn fetus in the trash can of a Continental Airlines jet's lavatory, police said today.

    The 14-year-old girl told police she didn't even know she had been pregnant, said police investigator Keith Lovelace.

    "We are dealing with a scared child at this point," Lovelace said.

    Although an investigation continues, no charges are expected to be filed against the child.

    "The baby was stillborn — it was not alive at the time of birth," Lovelace said.

    Authorities did not name the girl, her school or specifically why she was in New York other than for a school-related event with her classmates and some adult supervisors.

    The fetus was found Sunday afternoon by a cleaning crew about 30 to 45 minutes minutes after the aircraft flew from New York to Houston's George Bush Interncontinental Airport.

    The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office performed the autopsy.

    Police Sgt. Ryan Chandler said when the investigation is complete, findings will be given to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
