First off, I have followed the board for years, but this is my first post. Only reason for the delay is compatibilty problems with my old P.O.S. computer, but it's working now... Anyway? What is wrong with the Rocekts offense this year? WE have dropped to 24th or so in the L in points per game. How? I know the rule changes i.e. zone and handchecking have hurt us more than anybody but... we still have Steve Francis, a gunner in Mobley, KT although inconsistent can pour in points from time to time. My question is a simple one. Is our problems injuries - no Walt, Rice, Mo, crippled Mobley for large part of season, or is it the offensive philospophies of Rudy T? I do not want to get into Rudy T bashing, he is one of hte greatest Rox ever and he led us to two titles as a coach. So if it is Rud y T, how bout some logic on what he is doing wrong other than "Rudy T sucks, hehe." Personally, I lean towards the injury explanation. We have no depth bc of the injury bug. Think about it, we are gonna get two starters back next year - Rice and Mo T. KT and Griffin off the bench, and, if by the grace of God, Cato's play of late is more than an abberation, we could have a SICK line-up next season.
I really think it is due to the injuries. Based on the stats, our leading scorers' stats are up from last year. The primary explanation is that we're missing MoT and to a smaller degree, because Walt and Rice are out. Additionally, I think that injuries to guys that are primarily offensive options has caused what scorers we do have left to pass less and score more. As of today, the Rockets are dead last in assists per game at 18.1. At the same time, we are also 24th out of 29 in Field Goal percentage at 42.7%. Ultimately, it becomes apparent that the team is forcing shots and not opening up the zone defenses by passing out of tough situations. Until the players get out of the ISO attitude and start playing team ball, they'll go nowhere.
