you couldn't be watching the same game. I hadn't seen memphis all year until friday and anyone unbiased viewer could see their size would kill texas. texas basically had no advantage other than augustine and with rose playing the game the game he did texas really never had a shot. this is the best memphis team I've seen since calipari (sp) has been there
If Memphis continues playing well, they should beat UCLA before losing to UNC. UNC has everything Memphis has except their players are more skilled, disciplined and they shoot better from outside.
i don't know. I'm big on memphis. like i said in my post last night, I think memphis may be the most talented college team in the past ten years. That said, I don't think ucla is a good matchup for them. The way to beat memphis is to get them in the halfcourt, rebound, and make them hit jump shots. Should be a great game and a great final four. unc, ucla, memphis and possibly kansas? WOW.
It was a rough day for basketball with both my teams losing, but it's not AS bad because we lost to two very good and probably superior teams. The size seemed to be the difference in both games. T-Mac impressed today if we don't count jumpers, free throws and gimme alley-oops...? I'm wondering and doubtful about Augustin staying for another year. I think I would take top 10 pick money too so I can't blame him. Who will end up paying him next year? Milwaukee would be a trip. Miami wants to go big. Minny would be interesting. How many people are going to react to this game and say that DJ is not a top 10 pick?
Four #1 seeds make a good Final Four, but UNC is the class of the bunch. You are right, UCLA might be able to bump and grind Memphis into losing. But UCLA has trouble scoring sometimes.
I love DJ, but he shouldn't be a top ten pick. As good as he is, this game exposed his weaknesses. He is just going to have a lot of problems going against bigger, stronger, longer, and more athletic players. he got smothered by (and couldn't stop) rose, cdr, and anderson. He's going to see those type of players everyday in the nba. That said if he is a lottery pick he should go because the question marks he has are always going to be there.
This is the key, in my opinion. From what I understand, his whole family was hit by Katrina and forced to relocate to Houston (the entire extended family), and he's super-close to them (calls his parents every night, etc). I don't imagine they are independently wealthy, so if he has a chance to better their situation substantially, I'm guessing he takes it. I'm not sure how much his stock went down today. It was just one bad game, but on the other hand, it was a game against NBA-size players which he hasn't seen much of in the past.
IIRC, his family is not bad off. They just made the decision to stay in Houston instead of going back to NO. I believe his mother is a teacher (hence his priorities on education...Academic All-American). I wouldn't be surprised either way. He wants his degree, but he's smart enough to know what could happen should he stay. If he stays, UT is a top 5 team next season. If he goes, they'll be lucky to make the tournament.
That's cool - I hope he does stay. The education/degree thing gives me hope, but he'd have to stay two more years for that to happen. If he's not planning to do that, then zero no different than one. As far as UT being lucky to make the tournament - I think that's a bit of an overstatement. They've made the tournament every year of Barnes' career here, and they've dealt with the losses of Durant, Aldridge, TJ Ford, Tucker/Gibson, a whole senior class of starters (Thomas/Boddicker/Ivey/etc), etc. They recruit well enough and have no other talent leaving. They'll be top 25 during the season, though not a very good tournament team if they don't have another PG coming from somewhere.
