Don't know if it was what he was SUPPOSED to do. By all accounts from Turgeon, the play was supposed to be a three for Kirk where Carter was the decoy. I don't have a link, but I read at least two articles about it, and in one, Turgeon says that Sloan went a "little crazy" on the play.
