    Well,

I am again coaching my youngest son's soccer team and we are having a blast. It is so much fun watching them grow as little people and to have a lesson you teach at practice come to fruition in a game.

I have my boys passing the ball now, and while it is awesome to see, it has caused a little bit of a problem. The kids have figured that if they hang ahead for the pass they will score more often.

Which means we have basically only a couple of guys that play defense and the rest goal hang, fortunatly the guys that play D are our 2 best players.

So far we are 6-0 this year and our scores have been.

    17-16
    25-4
    35-4
    40-10
    25-2
    26-4

No keepers 3 on 3, and I have only 1 wall flower out of all 6 kids. I was on the field today, and as we were TROUNCING the other team, I heard a couple of the dad's remark...."Wow, now that is a real team".....made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I get so much fun out of watching my son and our kids play, and my son flat out hustles all over the field, he is the best overall player, and him sharing the ball with his passing just warms my heart.

If you have never coached soccer (5 seasons now) or Basketball (11 seasons) or baseball (1 season)...then you don't know what you are missing.

Sure it is a time sucker, but man.....it is so satisfying.....

Especially when none of the parents b****....(which happens more than you know).

Life is good.....4 more to go.......

    DD

Time to buy the cut-off hoodie. Who cares if it's hot outside! You're a champion.

Anyone know of any soccer leagues that start at 2 yrs old? I know of one in Houston, but it's off 249. I'm looking for one in Spring or the Woodlands.

    40-10? I didn't think that possible.

DaDakota, ya'll play at the Circle-C park? How do you join the league again? I apparently never see anything around when it's time to join.

Now the true test is if the team loses that badly every game and you still enjoy coaching.

Congrats on convincing them to pass so quickly. It took a lot of our girls until they were 7-8 to do that.

DD, you don't sound like an FFPS kind of coach.

LOL, I didnt think they let people keep score for kids that young. Isn't everyone a winner?

17-16, I'd enjoy. All those other scores with a group of 5 year olds would bring very little joy to me.

My 4 year old son starts FFPS in a couple of weeks. It'll be his first taste of organized team sports (if you can call it that). I'm interested in seeing how well he likes it.

I don't enjoy the beat down on other teams so much, and I roll the ball in front of our net to get them to score too...

Funny story, we were up like 30-1 in the 40 goal game, and some of the other parents asked us to roll the ball to the other end because their kids couldn't get it over the mid field.

We started rolling it towards our goal, and my son would run as fast as he could and kick it away....he then looked at me and said " STOP it Dad, you are making it too easy for them"

I took him aside and told him that I wanted the other team to get some goals too, and that I promised I would not do it unless we were way up.

    :D

He is uber competitive......my first born could care less, my 2nd HATES to lose.....and so far, he hasn't done too much of it...he will learn though....

Parts of me hopes we lose one, but another part is like...."No way"...

Giving kids epic beatdowns is the only way they'll learn

i umpire little league. there's one team that kills the competition every time. ironically, they're the REDs and the nickname Big Red Machine suits them. it's fun watching them play, but kind of feel bad for the other teams. we usually have to pull out the ten run mercy rule on them.

If you allowed your team to outscore the other team by more than 10 in a 5 year old team soccer game, you should not complain when some angry dad kicks your ass.

Wait, did you say it's a 3-on-3 football (British) match? So it's just three football players on your team vs three on the opponents team? Is that even football? It totally warps my perception of football in the United States.

I'm guessing daddy's uber competitive too if he's still counting goals with leads like that :D

Congrats on getting involved. I'm coaching 4/5 year olds this year too and there's really not many things I'd rather do on a Sat morning. It's pretty amazing to see them progress from basically hopeless at 4 to some pretty accomplished players in a pretty short span.
