That's Mark Cuban being Mark Cuban. If he had said: "The future of entertainment lies in the high definition format. As of now, the internet simply cannot deliver that level of quality. Until they can, on a the same scale and availability as Cable / Satellite television, the internet is not the cutting edge high quality medium it was 5 years ago." -nobody would listen and nobody who be commenting on it. In essence, I agree with him on this point. When I flip on the TV, the first channels I go to are the HD channels to see what is on. Usually I will even flip through this smaller subset two or three times before I will break down and drop a level to the non-HD stuff.
It is official. Netcraft now confirms: The Internet is dying One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Internet community when IDC confirmed that Internet market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that the Internet has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. The Internet is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test. You don't need to be Mark Cuban to predict the Internet's future. The hand writing is on the wall: the Internet faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for the Internet because the Internet is dying. Things are looking very bad for the Internet. As many of us are already aware, the Internet continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood. The world wide web is the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of its core developers. The sudden and unpleasant departures of long time web developers Jordan Hubbard and Mike Smith only serve to underscore the point more clearly. There can no longer be any doubt: the web is dying. All major surveys show that the Internet has steadily declined in market share. The Internet is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If the Internet is to survive at all it will be among technology dilettante dabblers. The Internet continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, the Internet is dead. Fact: the Internet is dying
I kind of agree with Cuban on this point. I can't even think of the last time I truly became excited at the prospect of some new technology or innovation on the internet. I use to love surfing the web and was continually amazed at the new types of media out there. Things seem a little bit stale recently. Maybe I'm just not up on the newest stuff, but I'm bored with the internet.
Ok, if you are talking about innovative technology then yes, it is sort of stagnant. It has reached it's capacity as far as data bandwidth etc. But there are still innovative technologies taking advantage of it....SKYPE for example. DD
Beg to disagree. Researchers are constantly breaking bandwidth records and pushing envelopes; and newer, higher bandwidth options are continuously being made available to consumers driving new applications that were previously not feasible. People act like they are bored with Internet video now, but only a couple of years ago the level of proliferation of video available today was unthinkable. Now we are seeing many major video web sites including Youtube and DailyMotion testing and rolling out high definition video, taking it to the next level. Mobile data speeds are increasing, with the rise of 3G and EVDO networks, making new mobile applications like streaming video possible; smartphones are on the rise and becoming even better (see iPhone). And we're just touching the tip of the iceberg in that area in my opinion -- 4G looms. The Internet has not reached its capacity, not by a long stretch. Most people are just bored because they've become spoiled by the rate of innovation we've seen in recent years.
If Internet is becoming more entertaining, so it is dead, then why was Internet alive? From the early days of internet, entaintainment and news reading are huge part of internet activities. I dont see HDTV takes over Interent in any ways.
Web 2.0?? I will have to research that I beleive what you say is true Spam/Virus/spyware/etc are attempting to kill the internet Rocket River
