Traveling all over to different countries for work has made me realize that in a few of these places I could be considered a target for the way I dress and speak. I have thought about this the more time I spend away from the states. Now that I have a serious girlfriend who travels with me, the concern has only increased.

I am seriously looking into a very effective easy to learn self defens method. Krav McGaw has caught my attention but so have several others. I guess what I need is something that would give me the opportunity to incapacitate my threat immediately and give me and my girlfriend a chance to escape. I don't care much for the beauty of a roundhouse to the face, (even though Chuck Norris would kick my ass if he heard that) but am looking for something with pressure points or effective incredibly damaging blows. It should be something that takes into account the fact that your attackers may be carrying weapons including guns.

This technique needs to be something that I don't have to dedicate hours a day to learn b/c I have a full enough schedule as it is. I'm a decent size 5'11 - 210. I don't know if that would make me a candidate for one technique over another? Basically if you guys have any experience in the matter and recomendations it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get a hand gun, very effective. So are shotguns, but difficult to conceal. Hand to hand fighting in life threatening situations largely occurs in movies and on UFC. Get real, take a lesson from Indiana Jones. ;)

You know the root cause of it then why don't you change or defer it a little bit just to avoid the troubles?

I've tried to lose the accent but its impossible. Im stuck with it. As soon as I open my mouth people immediately realize I'm foreign. So I try not to speak unless spoken to.

As far as my dress goes, usually its due to the fact that I dress very well to meet with Directors and Executives in my industry. Being only 26, making a good first impression with quality fashion dress code is of even more importance to me. The problem is during the work week, the commute to and from work. It passes some rough areas. On the weekends I usually wear jeans and a t-shirt and try to blend in.

Take like one class of self defense and don't forget what you learned should help you a lot. It's all about arm twisting, you get that stuff down and even a 10 year old can crack someones arm/elbow/wrist.

aikido, the one true martial art. yes, I am being completely serious.
with that said, I'm sorry to disappoint you -- but any martial art you study will take much more time than just a lesson here and there on a weekend.

Yeah, let's tell him bring a gun to the airport. I'd like to see him apply his self-defense to the security guards then.
