The Tony Parker comparison isn't too bad. I know a lot of posters on this board think Parker is severely overrated but he's very solid. I think Monta is more of a young Iverson in terms of quickness and athleticism. If he Improves his 3pt% and plays under control without any serious injuries he could be a star for a long time. Considering he's only 22 he has a long ways to go to establish his legacy and an NBA career is very fragile. I remember when D.wade started to become the shiznit and we were all slurpin him during his first 2 years.. A few years ago we discussed how he would get injured if he kept playing with wreckless abandon. Another example our very own Stevie Francis.
Speed and quickness are two different things. Barbosa may be faster end to end than Monte, but Monte gets that shot off so quickly. He has one of if not the quickest release in the league. This is the main reason I am so intrigued by Stephen Curry right now. He can get the shot off accurately as soon as it touches his hands, from downtown. Monte does it from midrange. Curry does it from distance.
Why does Curry get no love from the national media. Would we even hear his name outside of Tournament time if he wasn't Dell Curry's kid? By the way, Davidson won their 23rd in a row yesterday. Sounds like we've been trumped.
Does no one else notice Monte goes right 85% of the time? This is a pet peeve of mine when I play pickup...I always force the player I'm guarding towards their weak hand, especially if they're faster than me. Granted, sometimes Monte will go the way he wants to go, but he isn't guarded as effectively as he should be. He needs to work on his left hand more.
Dunno, very puzzling. Can't figure out why he isn't getting buzz. But his release is so smooth and quick it's unbelievable and his footwork on his shot is outstanding. He's going to be a nightmare to guard at the next level. He may not be able to defend anybody, but he's gonna be h... to try to stop.
Monta is a restricted free agent. If some other team overpays for him they might be able to pry him away from GS,but I feel that they will probably match any offer for him.
Props to the Warriors with the balls to pick Ellis up in the 2005 draft in the 2nd round (40th overall). A Gilbert Arenas-like pick. Meanwhile, in the same draft, we took Luther Head in the 1st round (18th overall).
He looks like a superstar for sure... dude is about to get paid this offseason, too... somebody will throw the max at him
