Adam Everett's certainly a unique player, with his defensive skillset. But he's 31, hit .230 last year with no power, and his bat has been in decline for 3 straight seasons. And he's coming off an injury. Yall are fooling yourselves if you think he's going to all of a sudden start hitting anywhere close to .300 for a season. That said, I miss his glove. I'm sorry that he was forced out the way he was.
...looks like the Astros heard you rikesh316!!! http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1 [FOX 26] ASTROS REMAIN INTERESTED IN PATTERSON Ed Wade, Houston Astros General Manager, told FOX 26 Sports on Saturday that former Washington Nationals pitcher John Patterson has cleared waivers and is a free agent. Wade said the Astros have made contact with Patterson's agent, Houston-based Alan Hendricks, about potentially signing him. ...amorephd...
True that. Of course, no one was thinking that. ...which was our point. Precisely. AE is half All-Star, half turd.
it appears that it could be happy trails to woody in an astros uniform. the ballgame is on fssw today, and he just gave up 3 in the first already. oh well, they certainly gave him a fair share of chances.
I don't see the Stros cutting Woody. He's guaranteed 6.25 million dollars this season, that's alot of salary to eat. I could see them dropping him from the rotation, though, maybe making him a long reliever. Either way, he gave the Astros nearly 200 innings last season, 2nd on the team. His numbers were pretty close to the season Livan Hernandez had, and alot of people were on the bandwagon to sign that dude. Mike Mussina was worse in 2007, and he's still got a starting spot for the Yanks. I'm not saying Woody is good, I cringe when he starts. But I don't think he's gone. Not yet.
I still miss the Hampy (circa 1998-99) that was the bulldog of the Astros rotation during the early Killer B's era.
I still would cut him. He sucks. He can't even strikeout anybody. You are going have to pay him either way. Rather just cut him and not worry about him giving him up hr's left and right. He is old and has nothing left.
Woody's start shows improvement according to Cooper. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/...d=2452869&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
Dear Cecil Cooper, Pitchers do not get better after age 40 without some serious pharaceutical assistance. Signed, Roger Clemens
This makes little sense to me unless the dollar figures are way off. The website of the Texas Rangers states that they are close to signing Patterson to a minor league deal as insurance against injuries. If he had signed with the Astros, there was every possibility that he could have been in the starting rotation come mid May, after Woody Williams flames out.
He did sign a minor league deal with the Rangers... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=spring_training

Woody appears to haved saved his *ss. Houston, Paronto, Cassel and Sampson look to me as goners. Sampson might still have options left, not sure. Even if Woody explodes in his last ST start and is cut, Cassel might have the inside edge over Sampson. We will see
I still don't quite get the perception that Woody is in the rotation. McTaggart's thoughts pretty much mirror mine: http://blogs.chron.com/gamedayastros/2008/03/do_you_like_pence_in_the_no_2_1.html By the way, it seems Pence will remain hitting second even after Matsui returns.
The Rangers' rotation situation is pretty cloudy too. They're counting on 2 youngsters (and another who's out with arm trouble right now) & an injury reclamation (JJ). Even their 2 vets at the top of the rotation are sketchy - Millwood & Padilla. Read that Patterson mentioned the pitching coach, who he knows from his days in AZ, as a factor in going there. I was surprised to see that Arlington played as a slight pitcher's park last year, and was dead neutral for HRs. Did they make any changes to the fence/stripe layout?
