Draft Stephen Curry and watch the two little Mini-Coopers buzz around the court draining shots on each other.
When he plays within himself (which he does 95% of the time), Ellis cannot be stopped. The combination of his great athleticism with a deadly midrange jumper puts him on a level other players can only dream about. Ellis went through a stretch of games a few weeks ago that showed me he can be an MVP candidate later in his career.
the guy is ridiculous and fun to watch. he is like barbosa but with control of freakish abilities. hes so fast defenses have no choice but to back up off of him, then when they do he just rises up for the pull up J. its insane how high his FG% has been recently.
It's 58% for 2008 while averaging 24 pts/game. Sick. Barbosa is a choker who doesn't come close to Ellis' talent, athleticism or clutchness.
He's amazing. He's fun to watch. The problem is, he is going to get hurt bad one day if he doesn't slow down and stop jumping into the air so high in full speed. He takes a lot of hard falls and he's not the strongest guy so he can't handles the bumps in the air very well. He's been lucky to not be injured badly by a bad landing. But like A_3PO said, if he plays within himself, he's too fast to guard. And you have to respect his shot as well. Those swoops to the basket are ridiculous and that's something he will have long into his career. I hope he can stay healthy. He needs more of the jumpshots and swooping layups and less of the crazy fastbreak drives where he throws himself into the air and at the basket and is at the mercy of defenders and awkward landings...
Yeah he definitely seems like he is goin to hurt himself bad one day. He has already been hurt once in a practice where he had to go to the hospital with neck injury, I wouldnt be surprised if that happened again the way he plays. I dont even remember him shooting in the game last night, it seems like all he did was just charge into the lane out of control but still in control in his mind i guess cause he always seemed to make the layup. I guess thats why his percentage is so high is cause he is mostly just getting layups. His three point percentage is a terrible 23%. If he is shooting midrange shots it doesnt seem like he is shooting a lot of them. But man, I wish we had him on our team, he could solve all of our problems with penetration when we need it.
Speed and athleticism naturally decline anyway - we're probably seeing him at his peak. But he looks like he'll be able to adjust to aging - that's the true test of how good a ball player is - does the gain in experience outweigh the loss in physical ability. That answer is yes for guys like Kobe, MJ, and Hakeem. No for guys like Shawn Kemp, Steve Francis, and Shaquille O'Neal
Ellis is pretty damn good..........and so is baron............and stephen jackson.........and al harrington.........and petris......... Glad we beat em
If I were the warriors I would have given him the ball 40 times, cause there was no one the rockets that had a prayer of stopping him. Every time the ball was not in his hands i was happy. I do think his size is going to hurt him in terms of injuries.
Overall: Ellis > Barbosa. He's a better finisher, shooter, and doesn't make as many dumb turnovers. However, Barbosa is clearly more athletic and body is more durable than Ellis. Funny thing, if you could make Ellis and Barbosa into one person, you would have a prime Iverson.
He had knee problems in HS, which is why teams shied away from him and he fell to the second round. So far he has not had injury problems but that might change. Sick player if he can stay healthy.
Monte ellis is one of my favorites i remember one month this season when his field goal percentage was like 70.8% and most of his shots are from MID RANGE that doesnt even begin to make sense. That mid range jumper is something serious Forget shooting threes if you have a midrange game that deadly.
Iverson is durable but overrated in my opinion. I admire him, but his FG % is pretty bad. The excuse back in Philly that he had no teammates to work with to go to the Finals wasn't justified. I think the excuse of jacking up 30 shots a game in his prime and shooting poor overall while having a few 50 point games is evident to why his team didn't really succeed much. I understand he went to the Finals, but they did get worked, and it was in the East which was still pretty weak even back then. I think this trend of dominating the offense has carried over with the Nuggets, but he has deferred attention more now that his team is chock full of offensive talent. That said while he's usually always among the league leaders in steals, he's still a bad defender because of his size and the fact that he gambles a ton in order to get those steals meanwhile his defensive assignment is left open. I don't think its a coincidence the Sixers are about the same without him as well. Great player, and I'd love to have him on the Rockets were it at all possible, but he is overrated.
I wonder who the fastest guard in the NBA is? If I had to list them before, I would probably left Monte Ellis out. But now it should be fun to see who is the fastest. You have Monte Ellis, Barbosa, Tony Parker, TJ Ford, Aaron Brooks, Jordan Farmar, Devin Harris, Iverson, and Rajon Rondo. This should be a poll...
"Barbosa is clearly more athletic" than Ellis? You aren't watching the same guy. Barbosa is faster, not more athletic.
