Wow! My spine is already tingling. It'll be interesting to see what they can do with this movie on a big budget. I've always been a fan of Bay's work (I don't blame Pearl Harbor on him.).

    Bay cranks up ``Chainsaw'' remake

    By Dana Harris

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - ``Pearl Harbor'' director Michael Bay's new low-budget production company is developing a remake of the horror cult classic ``The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.''

The film is set for a spring start. The director of the original 1974 film, Tobe Hooper, is writing a draft with his original co-writer, Kim Henkel, but no final decision has been made on the writer or director of the remake.

``The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'' told the gory tale of five 20-somethings who fall into the clutches of a monstrous clan of Texas cannibals and find themselves being whittled away by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. The film spawned three feature sequels, at least two behind-the-scenes documentaries and a Teutonic copycat, ``The German Chainsaw Massacre.''

Bay formed his Platinum Dunes banner last November, and has a first-look deal with music mogul Ted Field's Radar Pictures, which will fully finance the remake. For now, Bay has shot a three-minute promo reel, which foreign sales agent Good Machine Intl. will use as a sales tool at the upcoming American Film Market in Santa Monica.

I remember when I first heard the rumors about this, I begged that it was just some fanboy pipedreams. Unfortunately now we will see one of the greatest horror films of all time be dashed to pieces by mr. a.d.d. :(

Did anyone hear of the remake of "RollerBall" that is coming out next month? My bet is that it will suck...and the championship rollerball team will NOT be from Houston (as they were in the original movie).

    Rene Zelwegger from Katy.

It was more along the lines of a Part Two. It was shot long before they were big stars...held forever...then released once they made it.

I still think there are a bunch of people out there who have never seen the original.

I've heard some bad things about it. I think it was supposed to be released last year but needed a lot of tweaking.

The only thing worth watching may be Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.

Well considering that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn't the most subtle of flicks, I don't know how much actual damage Micheal Bay can do. Although I have a sinking feeling that new Leatherface is going to have a computer-generated face that will be more grotesque but somehow less creepy than the original. And of course, one of the victims will be a TV actor from the WB.

Some things are best left alone. Why can't he come up with a cool horror movie of his own?

One movie that could be remade well would be the Omega Man. Actually, if you took out the horrible soundtrack from the original, it would seem like a whole new film.

Just another in a long line of examples that prove true creativity in the motion picture industry is dead as a doornail. It seems that Hollywood cannot create a movie these days unless it is (1) a sequel to a movie already made, (2) a remake of a movie made a long time ago, or (3) a movie based on a television series.

Screw Hollywood. Enjoy independent films. They are the only films worth watching.

Tex, you forget (4) a movie based on a theme park ride. I still can't believe this is even true.

My bad. Good point. I can't believe it is true either.
