Michael made a deal with the Others to get Walt back. At the time, Ben (then not yet know to be the leader of the others) was being held captive in the Swan Dharma station. Ben had tried to strangle Ana Lucia but Locke saved her. Later, Michael talks with her; she tells him about Henry, about how he tried to kill her, and how she couldn't bring herself to kill him. Michael offers to do the job for her, and she gives him the gun. Michael then shoots Ana-Lucia, killing her. Libby walks in and sees Michael with the gun; startled, he shoots her as well. Michael then opens the door to "Henry's" cell. Henry stands and the two exchange glances; Michael then deliberately shoots himself in the shoulder. He later claims that an Other broke in and did everything.
The Russian has survived some serious stuff, and even Naomi last a long while after a knife was tossed into her back, so it's possible if not likely. I'd say they're both dead. Karl took a bullet through the lung and Danielle also was hit square in the chest. They seemed like sniper shots to me. I'm certain that Ben staged the entire thing. Karl and Rosseau were the two people that were taking his daughter away from him (literally, figuratively) and the Juliette episode showed us how he is with possession issues. He sent them out there to a kill zone. Very possible that the Temple isn't even where he said it was, that was just the kill point. Don't know who pulled the trigger, but I think that's secondary. Ben arranged the killings. Evan
Yeah, I was always hoping for a Rousseau flashback episode to explain a little bit more about the Black Rock, etc. I'll be pretty disappointed if she's dead. Pretty unceremonious way to kill off someone who's been a pretty major character on the island since season 1.
I'm not so sure I believe that. Whatever Ben had in mind when he told them to go to the Temple, it seemed as if Rousseau seemed to catch his line of thinking. She gave him this look like understood what he was doing but didn't want to let Alex in on it. If Ben was intending them all to be killed, I don't think Rousseau would have gone along with it. She seems to know him pretty well. I think it was someone not operating under Ben's orders.
Same here. The question I keep having is how did she and Ben end up having a kid, and why didn't she join the Others.
Ben stole her kid with the help of the Others. She had Alex with a member of her expedition team, all of whom went crazy and she had to kill. She's lived on the island mostly paranoid of the Others and avoided contact with them in her super-booby trapped bunker. Pretty much the opposite of what Michael did when the Others took Walt. Evan
Well, she got pregnant on the ship voyage. The father died on the island along with four other people on the ship. Danielle (edit: Alex) isn't Ben's biological daughter. She was abducted soon after Rousseau gave birth to her. Still, it would be interesting to see how all that unfolded. Frankly, I can't believe the creators would not do a Rousseau flashback. Seems like it would add a lot to the show and the "others" history. Clue to Rousseau's fate... Spoiler From Wikipedia: "Danielle will be having a flashback to show the story of her research ship in either the fourth, fifth, or sixth season, as well as show up in someone else's flashback." Hopefully this means she survived.
My wife made an interesting point. In this last episode (or was it the one before) after Sayid and Desmond had gotten back on the freighter, they noticed on the deck one time that the helicopter was gone. I think the captain sent some of his gunmen out to the island to try to complete the mission. They are the ones that were sniping Rousseau and Karl, and THEY are the reason Ben didn't want Alex to get captured. He knew they could use her to get to Ben (he said as much). What went unspoken between Ben and Rousseau was that they were already invading the island and this coming war was about to begin.
I am still about 4 episodes behind...just saw the desmond ep where he goes back and forth...very cool, my favorite so far...I guess I'll go back and read once I'm caught up but I guess the implication is that only 8 survived the crash, 6 made it home and that's their story to not deal with questions about the others...So something happens to everyone except 6 of them? Kate is f'n hot...So she didn't sleep with sawyer that time, but she had a kid and its blond, like sawyer? I liked the Economist ep too...I'll try to catch up this weekend...
It's fairly obvious that this is the answer. First, the show makes deliberate reference to "Frank being sent on a errand" when Sayid asks about the missing helicopter, and second, in the preview for the future episodes, you see the Losties and Ben gearing up for war. Plus, during the scene in the last episode where the captain issues a beatdown on some crew members, the military guys that Michael saw taking target practice on the deck were nowhere to be seen. My guess is that they were with Frank. Once Charlotte and Faraday neutralized Ben's gas weapon (in Juliet's episode), the military guys were given the go-ahead to storm the island.
Anyone else notice The Captain not be enraged at all about what Sayid told him? It is almost like The Captain knew Michael was an 815er and Bens man...I think The Captain has his own motives and not Widmores. But its great to see Michael back. We just need more Rose and Bernard.
i thought it was interesting that michael actually did get off the island somehow (i wish they would explain that a bit more and what his story was...why didnt he say he was part of the oceanic flight?) otherwise a pretty decent episode giving a little bit more background info on the freighter. i think it was lame that sayid would turn in michael when he should have known that he was the one helping them on the ship. i understand that there was a lot of hate in sayid for his betrayal but at the same mike was the only one that had a child on the island and was responsible for him and ben manipulated him for that fact. kind of ironic seeing how ben will manipulate sayid in the future as well. i have a feeling that the captain already knows that michael isnt who he says he is and was going to use him to get at ben somehow in the future. it seems odd for such secret trip that they would hire some random deckhand when everyone else seems specialized in some sort of way. due to the nature of the trip it seems that an extensive background check would have been done on "kevin johnson" as well even if ben was able to fabricate an entire fictictious life for michael i am sure widemore with his resources would have been able to see through it, i mean the man was able to fake a crash. (actually i have been thinking that could have still been Ben, those documents and pictures could have easily been forged to convince michael that widemore faked the crash---i still think it could have been ben...when ben shot locke he fell into an freshly dug up open grave with the old dharma people that were all killed) i dont know if it was those other guys who killed carl and rosseau because unless they knew that alex was ben's daughter (which no way of knowing because ben himself said if they found out she was his daughter they would use her) it would seem that the freighter people would capture all 3 people and find out where they are heading and get more info about ben rather than just shoot them down dead. i would be inclined to be believe ben ordered the killing of carl and rossseau to keep alex safe and to himself. those shots were to precise for it to be a random killing they were aiming for everyone other than alex. damn this show and its addictive nature...april 24 is long time away
Referencing who staged the plane wreck... So, the helicopter pilot and the captain are both under the impression that Ben was the one who staged the airplane flight to keep people from looking for the plan and possibly finding the island. Widmore told them this. However, Tom told Michael the exact opposite. That Widmore staged the wrecked flight to keep the island all to himself. Obviously someone's lying. I can't decide which is the truth.
I think that was some part of the agreement he had with Ben. Maybe something like if he told anybody, they would come and kill Walt. OR, it could be that Michael doesn't want to tell anybody about the island, what happened, and what he did to get his son back. From Sayid's perspective, he had no idea Ben had an inside man on the boat. And I'm pretty sure he hasn't heard Ben's claims that they're going to kill everyone, not that he would trust Ben anyway. I mean, the last thing that Sayid did before he left the island was lead Miles straight to Ben. I think that from Sayid's perspective, the freighters are still more likely to rescue them than kill them and all Michael is doing is sabotaging their escape from the island.
Actually, Lapidus made a very neutral comment. He said the plane in the trench wasn't 815 and that the crash was faked. Then he says that Widmore believe that the real 815 is still out there followed by "Could you imagine if we found some of those people alive?" He never says who did it. So we have the captain insinuating that Ben did it, Tom bluntly saying that Widmore did it, and this non assertive comment by Lapidus. Actually, I think that last quote from Lapidus is great. Whoever staged it can't let the Losties leave the island and expose the conspiracy. If Widmore did it, that's why his people would have instructions to kill everybody once they had Bed. I don't think we're going to get the answer of who faked the crash until next season. I have heard . . . Spoiler . . . that they're going to present two theories about the fake crash, equally plausible, and we won't know which one to believe. I think they're going to develop each theory (Widmore vs Ben) further and this question as to "who dunnit" will be one of this seasons cliffhangers.
About the gun didn't fire. I think when Ben's guy took the gun from Michael for a while, he did something with it, so it won't fire.
