He is maybe another Swift. If I had that type of athletic ability, I would be put up 25 a night in the NBA!
Bingo! The most fair comparison. He has any physical or basketball tool that tmac, VC, or kobe has. He just doesn't know how to use it. Jumper, check. Hops, check. handles, check. height, check. He could be tmac if he puts it all together but tmac has always been much more unselfish on the court (you could say that was low bball IQ though because it took him 3 or 4 open looks to get an assist out of Tyrone Lue).
Eh, not quite bingo. Gerald doesn't have handles, and while he can jump through the roof, he isn't particularly quick laterally and doesn't have the first step you'd expect from someone with his leaping ability. Stro was never willing to put in the work, Gerald is willing, but he doesn't understand how much work needs to be done. It was a telling sign that after his first preseason Gerald came into the Celtics camp, talking about how happy he was with his offseason improvements, while Doc Rivers is making comments about how he didn't see enough from Green. I don't think he's genuinely understood how much work he needs to put in. In my opinion, Gerald's work ethic is more of a case of ignorance rather than laziness, unlike Stro. The best comparison IMO is JR Smith, who had a pretty poor work ethic in New Orleans, then got a bit of a wakeup call after bouncing around from the Hornets to the Bulls to the Nuggets like a piece of trash. Hopefully Gerald gets that same wakeup call and can start putting it together.
i think we could really use green, sure he might not be defensively great but he can finish and thats something we lack when head is in for tmac. I honestly think we should waive francis to get green back. francis isnt doing us a favor injured and fat.
I have high hopes for Francis next season. He wants his career back. BJ's contract will be traded for a scorer and Francis will have the backup spot to himself next season. Green clearly has no place on a championship caliber team.
high hopes for francis next season is more wishful thinking than playing green in hopes that he'll reach some of his potential.
LOL wrong. I'm not saying Landry has nearly as much potential as McGrady (Landry is 24, T-Mac was 18), but Landry has a PER of 23.9 in 16.6 MPG. T-Mac had a PER of 17.4 in 18.4 MPG. Landry is 10th in the league this year in PER.
I think they're both good comparisons. Stro looked fine when he initially played in Memphis. JR Smith hasn't changed a bit either, he was always a great shooter who was atheletic. He just went to a team that desparately needed a 2 guard and he still doesn't play any defense. I think Gerald has had high scoring games before too. Watch some old Celtics games on the net, Gerald is a good ball handler and is quick laterally. His main problem is not trying on defense and not grasping team basketball. His first step is good he just isn't good in the triple threat position (it makes your first step appear very fast).
i like g.green... he's good athletic skill, need someone to lead him. he'll be a good player, good backup in Rox
Huh? Speak English. I assume what you mean is that Luther is quicker than he is and he's doing a good job coming off the bench? If so, let me remind you that Cat is more athletic, bigger, a better scorer, and plays much better defense. Even at his age right now vs. Head. I'd take some Cat over Head any day. ( Okay, that came out wrong in a sexual way... )
I live in Boston and followed Gerald's progress/career very closely while he was here, in fact I'm a fan of Gerald more than I'm a fan of any team. When he had big scoring games he was being utilized as a shooter coming off of screens and as a deep threat. His highest scoring game was 33 against the Hawks if I remember correctly, and that game was for the most part a shooting display, with not a whole lot of activity around the rim. He's not a slasher, he simply doesn't have the handles or first step to be that type of scorer in my opinion. Stro played well, but the reason he was never completely successful was because he was lazy as **** and didn't want to do the work he KNEW was required of him. JR Smith has become a MUCH better shooter, he went from being a volume scorer to an efficiency god practically overnight. He definitely made some big strides, largely in part due to him waking up and realizing he needed to work harder.
I was with you outside of this comparison... I don't see how 7 and 4 in 18 mpg is "far better" than nearly 9 and 5 in 16 mpg.
